Serve as an EHS&S Specialist for the Marietta site, initially for a new facility design, construction, and startup / commissioning (drug substance facility or drug product facility). As a core member of the construction project leadership team, ensure that all aspects of the facility are designed, planned, and executed in safe and compliant manner. This role will be the site lead EHS&S technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a new commercial vaccine manufacturing facility design, construction, and startup. The role will transition to a site based EHS Specialist role supporting the Marietta site post-construction. As an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security/Emergency Response (EHS&S) programs to ensure a safe compliant work environment. You will ensure GSK standards are embedded into both operations and projects to mitigate key risks for the site, champion EHS principles across the site and work with management and staff to continuously drive EHS performance, and consult with Operations, Project, Global, and Support staff on the suitability and effectiveness of controls. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following… Manage key health and safety risks to our people (GSK personnel, contractors, and visitors) and our reputation (federal, state, and local regulators and external public). Implement EHS&S programs at the Marietta site, verify programs and procedures are effective, and ensure that the site is properly identifying and mitigating hazards and risks. Evaluate compliance with federal, state, local, legislation and GSK requirements related to EHS&S. Perform program audits, facility inspections, and generate recommended corrective actions. Collaborate with project managers during design, construction, and execution stages to incorporate compliance with GSK EHS&S policies, local, State and Federal regulations throughout all aspects of construction and operational work. Key contributor and SME relative to construction related documentation, including Project Risk Assessments, Construction Safety Plans, Equipment Startup Reviews, Project Walkthroughs/handovers, and Permit To Work, User Requirement Specification, design specifications, design reviews, commissioning/testing, maintenance plans, and handovers. Implement EHS&S Management Systems applicable for health, safety, environment, and security regulations & requirements. Develop, conduct, and evaluate training on EHS&S programs and processes, including training of area supervisors and staff to identify hazards and conduct workplace inspections. Recommend and develop specific safety improvement plans and programs based on current trend analysis and EHS&S performance. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Engineering, or other related scientific or engineering discipline Professional certification (CSP) or willing to become certified within 5 years. Obtaining in the specified timeframe and then maintaining a CSP certification is a requirement for continued employment. Member of relevant professional EHS institution (e.g. ASSP) in order to stay current in the field. Minimum of 1 year of EHS&S experience in pharmaceutical or other regulated manufacturing environment Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Working knowledge of OSHA safety and health regulations in general industry (29 CFR Part 1910) and construction (29 CFR Part 1926). Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and management of programs related to high risk/high hazard management, risk assessments and control, processes and hazardous agents, health and wellbeing programs, security, and emergency response. Good technical knowledge of risk management in construction projects. General understanding of and awareness or experience in Environmental Compliance. Demonstrated organizational, trouble-shooting and communication skills, both written and verbal required. Ability to collaborate with and influence others at all levels of the organization. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to make complex ideas seem simple and to deliver messages with clarity and impact. Demonstrate ability to prioritize plans, developing short and long-term strategies to address complex issues, using relevant change management techniques. Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment which requires one to successfully be able to change and revise plans quickly to meet demand. Demonstrate flexibility to create and systematically evaluate different alternative solutions to issues, while maintaining compliance regulations and GSK standards. Must have excellent attention to detail. “Right-First-Time” deliverable of work products is expected. Must be able to work and make sound decisions with minimal supervision or oversight. Must be able to support, on short notice, occasional extended hours and shift and/or weekend coverage in order to support 24/7 manufacturing & project/construction operations. Must be willing to carry a cell phone during & outside of working hours and be able to respond to the site 24/7/365 for emergencies.
