$83,300 - $110,000

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

The Springfield, Oregon paper mill is seeking an EHS Safety Specialist. The EHS Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team at the Springfield mill. This position reports directly to the Safety Manager. 

 

The Job You Will Perform:

Support the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to ensure 100% compliance with all safety and environmental regulations Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results including completing field audits of confined space, lock out tag out, line break, and hot work activities Lead the site’s Emergency Response Team including leading the steering team, coordinating training, keeping training records, and supporting the team Lead the on site security team Trained, or willing to be trained in first aid, rope rescue, HAZMAT, and confined space rescue Communicate compliance on monthly safety training to the mill Provide support to safety steering team in managing and communicating deliverables and results Communicates key safety information millwide Update mill safety training materials and manage training activities in consultation with mill training coordinator Assist department and mill personnel, as assigned by the EHS&S manager, to complete priority  objectives Support 24/7 manufacturing environment. This includes occasional weekend and evening hours to support upset conditions and outages Work on cross functional mill teams supporting the goal of improving the mill’s long term profitability, high levels of safety performance, and good community relations Oversee budgeting costs associated with contractor/consultant work products Processes and manages purchase requisitions at the direction of the EHS department Assists the EHS Manager and safety manager with health and safety programs such as: Emergency Evacuation Plans Department Safety Audits Millwide Training Days Annual Outage Drug Testing Annual Hearing Tests Updates and prints mill policy books Orders safety signage

The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:

1 to 5 years experience in a safety professional role Paper mill experience considered a plus Previous first responder leadership role preferred Strong commitment to safety in all aspects of business operations Good written and verbal communications skills Knowledge of Microsoft Office software particularly Excel
