EHS Specialist
Executes relevant EHS activities in line with clear policies and procedures at the site/EHS discipline; in order to minimise EHS risks. Entry level professional. May be working towards a professional EHS qualification e.g. NEBOSH or equivalent. Participates in small local projects.Job purpose

This position is responsible for providing specialist EHS support to Plant activities and personnel. The holder is dedicated to one EHS related discipline based upon the risk profile of the site. This is in line with the Johnson Matthey value of ‘Health and Safety is our Priority’.

Principle accountabilities

A. Implement EHS Legislation and requirements to ensure plant activity compliance.

Track the EHS legislation systematically to study & document the applicability and gaps; update the gaps/result regularly.  Ensuring all related legal and JM requirements are understood and communicated effectively to all relevant departments.Be responsible for EHS related governments’ liaison and report, to maintain the EHS permits and regulation conformance monitoring and investigation by governments.Implement and approve PTW (permit to work) and special work permit by regulations and requirements.

B. Establish and implement EHS Management System, processes, tools and EHS culture activity to support business sustainable.

Create and optimize effective EHS procedures and process according to EHS legislations and JM requirements new post and updated. And to ensure these are implement in relevant departments.Maintain EHS system effectively implementing in site including ISO14001, ISO45001, Safety standardization and Double prevention system, Hazardous waste standardized management, etc.Implement EHS roadmap, workplan and training plan and EHS program to achieve excellent EHS performance.Implement IH (Industrial Hygiene) sampling plan and the occupational health checking program to ensure the medical surveillance program/record is compliance with JM EHS requirement and local OH (Occupational Health) regulations.Organize EHS activities for employee through EHS gap & behaviour analysis, training, global safety day activity, safety moment, safety 365, SOC (Safety Observation Conversation) etc.

C Provide EHS specialist advise and service to support business sustainable growth

Provide  specialist training to relevant personnel in the EHS discipline focusing on both compliance and continuous improvement.Organize EHS Risk Identification & assessment for the potential hazards through Job Safety Analysis, Safety Risk Aspect Tool, Environmental Aspect Tool, etc. and tracking the implementing of recommended actions.Implement, tracking and follow up to close the EHS inspection findings.Supervise relative department to conduct Firefighting system and WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) maintain to fulfil company and regulation requirements.Organize relative departments to conduct LE (learning event), LOPC (Loss of Primary Containment) and all events to be reported.Organize relative departments to conduct the incident investigation with root cause analysis (RCA) method, identify the corrective actions and track implement status, prevent their recurrence.

D. Other Tasks

Other roles as defined by the related legal and JM EHS policies, standards, procedures and workplan.Other tasks from managers.KPIsLaunch activities to enhance the “safety by choice” for 0 incident.Encourage all employee to highlight any risk and reach the LE Rate and Closure rate target.Maintain EHS system effectively implementing in plant to achieve EHS sustainable goal, e.g.  passed ISO 14001& 45001 system certification.Other KPIs as defined by JM global, sector and plant.

Qualifications/ knowledge/ experience

(Technical/ professional knowledge and skills competency)

Bachelor’s degree or above in safety engineering or Environmental Engineering or chemical engineering or similar.Basic safety/environment/OH&IH professional technical knowledge and experience in chemical industry or automobile industry.Know EHS laws, regulations, and standards.Familiar with the ISO 14000&45001 systemMore than five (1) years of experience in EHS in a batch-manufacturing environment. Activity sectors in order of preference: Fine/Specialty Chemicals, Pharma, and Oil & Gas and automotive.Know safety and environment critical equipment, E.g., WWTP (wastewater treatment plant), Firefighting equipment, etc.Have professional and technical titles, E.g. CSE (Certified Safety Engineer), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist)EHS risk assessment, incident root cause analysis (RCA) skill *Develop the EHS process, procedure, and report skill *Using a PDCA approach to implement the EHS management system*Organization EHS Training skill*Identify compliance and gaps and with laws, regulations and standards

Fluent in written and verbal communication in English
