The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will lead and manage the Northern Ontario Region’s risk management and liability control initiatives. This role focuses on implementing and maintaining comprehensive safety systems, ensuring compliance with regulations, and minimizing operational risks. The EHS Specialist will also oversee specialized projects aimed at enhancing safety protocols, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of safety across the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Review accidentsRequest /review new hire Motor Vehicle Reports and coordinate annual company-wide reviewResponsible for monitoring workers' compensation claims.Maintain a working knowledge of safety theory, regulations and Company policy.Review the record-keeping process and branch compliance foldersConduct random audits in each division.Transportation IssuesConduct observations from a variety of perspectives including landfill, in cab, pre/post trip, and randomly conduct blind observations.Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management copy machine, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

​2-5 years of experience in risk management, safety, environmental management or technology.Possess a valid driver’s licenseCombination of education and/or experience.Ability to effectively communicate with managers and employees.Ability to write and understand reports and correspondence.Ability to acquire and apply knowledge necessary to solve safety-related problems.
