Position Purpose: 

The Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Supervisor supports the EHS&S Program for Veolia Water Milwaukee (VWM), under direction of the EHS&S Director, to ensure compliance with all Veolia EHS&S policies, internally established business metrics, training program requirements, injury and incident prevention, and development & implementation of site-specific EHS&S programs. A critical aspect of this position is responsibility for managing the EHS&S Training Program, including training delivery.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

Under limited direction, this role plans, organizes, coordinates and implements the EHS&S programs for the Milwaukee Project; takes action to ensure compliance with Veolia EHS&S requirements, including OSHA General Industry and Construction standards; advises operations managers on safe work methods and practices and the elimination of hazards; investigates accidents, near misses, and chemical spill/release incidents, and prepares necessary reports to ensure proper reporting requirements are met to all internal departments, as well as external regulatory agencies.Interfaces with corporate EHS&S teams to implement corporate initiatives at the local level.Review, implements, and manages company EHS&S policies and procedures.Supports plant management in safety compliance initiatives, accident prevention, workers’ compensation management, incident analysis, safety and environmental auditing, and EHS&S training.Monitors, tracks, and conducts EHS&S training for employees, contractors and visitors as required.Manages accident reporting, investigations, and reviews. Analyze data and propose intervention strategies and follow-up on the preventive/corrective actions.Support workers’ compensation claims management and interacts with corporate WC resources to reduce case costs.Serves as a mentor/resource for project staff on EHS&S related matters.Assists in the development of EHS&S budgets and EHS&S goal setting.Develop and support implementation of Milwaukee-specific EHS&S programs and policies and procedures.Monitors safety requirements, industry consensus safety standards, and industry safety statistics.Completes monthly EHS&S reports to project management and regional or corporate EHS&S leadership on progress against established HS&S Metrics.Develops, implements, and manages injury reduction programs to reduce accidents and avoidable events.Directs and supports efforts to improve supervisor and employee safety culture.Provides or coordinates industrial hygiene related support to protect employee’s health through hazard controls in the work environment.Determines and implements leading edge and cost effective EHS&S control measures to reduce EHS&S incidents and costs.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a wastewater treatment plant.While performing the duties of this position, the employee is both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.The employee may work occasionally on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding, below ground and may be exposed to water and other liquids, chemicals, and sludges.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety Management or equivalent (years of experience).5+ years of experience in Safety Management and Training (relating to water and wastewater treatment industry is a plus, industrial/manufacturing settings are acceptable).5+ years of experience with EHS&S training delivery and training program management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Strong organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal skills.Working knowledge of Federal OSHA and security (DHS), and any corresponding Wisconsin regulations.Working knowledge of wastewater treatment would be an advantage.Ability to manage multiple initiatives, adapt to frequent re-prioritization with a drive for results.Ability to interact with all levels of Veolia management and staff to achieve required EHS&S Metrics.Ability to train, coach, and influence employee behavior on safe work practices and environmental compliance excellence to achieve required EHS&S Metrics.Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite (or demonstrated ability to be proficient in the latter).Maintain specialized knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and industry consensus safety and environmental guidelines.Willingness and ability to work outside of core business hours as may be required to meet business needs and respond to emergencies.Ability to develop and effectively present employee training classes.Proficiency with MS Office and Google products.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

Desired, but not required, certifications include:Authorization by the OSHA Training Institute as an authorized instructor on OSHA Standards for construction and general industry.CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or working toward CSP.CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) Certifications issued by IHMM (Institute of Hazardous Materials Management) and other recognized industrial safety organizations on topics relevant to conducting specific safety training courses and responding to hazardous materials handling operations and chemical spill/release incidents.Trained in, and ability to deliver training AED/CPR, First Aid is desirable. Ability to obtain certain Trainer designations.
