EKG TECHNICIAN
The starting rate for this position is: $16.89 Rate of pay displayed reflects the beginning of the pay scale. At the time of an offer, determination of your offer will reflect your skills and experience as it relates to the position. Job Summary The EKG tech will perform EKGs and other related procedures on outpatients. They will also be responsible for processing the EKGs that are sent over from the TC 70 Machines that are throughout the hospital. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry. + Oversees the use of EKG equipment. + Explains the function and process of EKG exams to patients prior to the test. + Ensures that all patients are calm and relaxed during the process. + Attaches EKG electrodes to patients to monitor heart activity and removes them after tests are completed. + Adjusts EKG machines to individual patients. + Administers Holter tests, which monitor patient heart activity for 24 hours. + Notes specific images and places on the test results for physicians to review closely. + Provides attending physician with test results. + Defers to supervising physician’s ultimate diagnosis and course of action. + Removes and stores equipment when testing is completed. + Ensures that all EKG equipment is working properly. + Calls in a medical equipment repair specialist when machines malfunction. + Requests new EKG testing equipment or supplies if needed. + Other duties as consistent with this role. Job Requirements: (education and experience/preferred and required) Job Knowledge and Skills + Demonstrates complete knowledge of the function and purpose of EKG equipment. + Exhibits knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as familiarity with health care field. + Possesses basic science and math skills. + Communicates clearly and calmly with patients and doctors. + Can translate technical knowledge into layman’s terms for the benefit of patients. + Pays close attention to detail. + Maintains professional demeanor. + Possesses physical strength necessary to transport equipment and patients and to work long shifts as necessary. + Has ability to remain clear-headed and calm in a high-stress and fast-paced work environment. + Must successfully complete hospital training program prior to start. Education and Experience + Associate degree or bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements. Working Conditions/Physical Demands Must p ossess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
