About the role

Our Project and Engineering team for APAC (Asia-Pacific), composed of ~10 people, is integrated in the Projects department and focuses on engineering and delivering capital investment projects in collaboration with EPCM contractors and Solvay Business units .

The Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation Engineer will play a key role in supporting project managers on GEC projects by leading Instrumentation, Automation and Electrical activities.

The Engineer role will also provide support to corporate and site-level teams, driving standardization and action plans within various production sites.

Electrical installations, instrumentation, and automation are critical to achieving high levels of safety and reliability at our production sites. We are dedicated to implementing solutions that are safe, sustainable, and have a minimal environmental footprint.

As Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation engineer, you will be responsible for managing the assigned engineering scope, interface with Engineering Contractors and Project Team  and will communicate progress to the Engineering and Project Manager

You will report to Solvay’s Senior PM and Engineering Team leader

You will be accountable for:

Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all installations align with operational needs and safety standards, both during design and execution.

Corporate Interaction: Engage closely with the head of Corporate Domain to ensure coordinated alignment of technical project goals and standards.

Project Support: Assist construction project teams with process automation, instrumentation and electrical topics.

Discipline Leadership: Lead automation, instrumentation and electrical activities across projects, covering LV, field instrumentation, control systems, and instrumented safety, in close collaboration with corporate experts. (with HV/MV supported by corporate), 

Site Support: Support sites in specifying, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical and automation systems.

Reliability Analysis: Conduct analyses of recurring issues or failures and recommend optimal technical-economic solutions.

Technology Investigation: Evaluate new technologies, products, and standards to enhance our systems.

Knowledge Sharing: Coordinate with the AP network of production specialists to foster experience exchange and best practices.

Vendor Management: Collaborate with the procurement team on managing vendor contracts.

We offer a permanent contract based on hybrid working mode.

Travel is anticipated to be ~30% but will vary with project complexity, project phase and resource availability. Travel both domestic and international will be required.

 

About you

Relevant education degree (Msc)  or equivalent in Instrumentation/automation or Electrical Engineering discipline is required. 

Relevant work experience (minimum history of 5 years) in  engineering or maintenance of industrial electrical and automation systems, including experience with CAPEX projects.

Competencies:

Expertise in field instrumentation and control systems.

Familiarity in engineering tools (e.g., Smart Plant Instrumentation, ETAP).

Familiarity with configuration tools (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, ABB Drive Composer).

Experience with PLCs (e.g., Siemens) and DCS systems (e.g., Yokogawa, Emerson, Honeywell).

Expertise of LV electrical networks (e.g., PC, MCC, VSD).

In-depth understanding of relevant standards in assigned domains.

Interest in innovative technologies.

Preferred background in the chemical industry, including maintenance or operational activities.

good command of English language (both oral and written)

About the pay and benefits

Attractive and equitable pay for all: compensation is determined within a range to foster your development in the role. While the Shanghai base pay reasonably expected for this role is  405,120 to 506,400, your salary may ultimately be higher or lower based on your skills and experience. Additionally, we provide a competitive total rewards package that includes a bonus and/or other incentives.
