An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Rolls-Royce as a Electrical Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer working in Civil Nuclear. 

As a systems design & integration engineer you will contribute to the development and delivery of complex systems with a bias towards the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) aspects. Your main focus will be to ensure that customer and regulatory requirements are understood, clearly articulated to personnel/organisations responsible for designing and supplying equipment, and to appropriately manage them throughout the design process.

In doing so you will need to fully understand and undertake design schemes of electrical and control architectures associated with the project you are involved with. The ideal candidate will be able to understand not only the EC&I aspects of the project but will have an appreciation of Mechanical and Civil disciplines sufficient to manage associated interfaces and integrate activities conducted by specialists in these disciplines.

What you will be doing:

Responsible for applying a systems engineering approach to the realisation of a new system or the modification of an existing one, deployed in a particular project / multidisciplinary programme team;Requirements Management;Designing the control and operation of systems and working with suppliers to ensure that this is implemented, specifically with respect to EC&I equipment;Controlling/managing interface definitions/information both internal to Rolls-Royce and externally with clients and suppliers;Production of cross functional specifications;Defining and monitoring design Substantiation/Verification activities;Undertake design schemes of electrical and control architectures;Integrate EC&I deigns/equipment produced by multiple organisations to ensure that the overall design intent is achieved;Be technically responsible for defining the scope of packages of work and providing delivery against programme milestones, such as: requirements documents, system operation and maintenance manuals, data sheets, optioneering studies, equipment specifications, single line diagrams, loop diagrams, instrument schedules;Act as an interface between external and internal stakeholders;Authoring and reviewing engineering documentation in accordance with company and project quality processes;Identify and record design rationale and assumptions;Ensure appropriate quality, governance, verification and validation efforts are applied;Input to design reviews, HAZOPS and other reviews.

For this role we are looking for someone with:

Understanding of systems engineering as a discipline, with experience of its application;EC&I design experience. Ideally relating to selecting/defining instrumentation for nuclear applications, low voltage electrical design and articulating control requirements to control equipment suppliers;Good communicator with a wide range of stakeholders;Appropriate engineering or science degree;Demonstrates a logical approach to problem solving;Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work as part of a team;Demonstrable experience of working with multiple engineering disciplines;Demonstration of a strong grasp of the English language and technical report writing skills;Experience of Systems Engineering / Stage Gate type processes in nuclear or similar highly regulated environments;Experience of using IBM DOORS is desirable;Experience of managing design change / configuration management;Knowledge of through-life design considerations is desirable.

Due to the security requirements for this role, candidates must be a sole British National and be eligible to obtain an SC Clearance.

The professional level and the salary of the position will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
