Electrical Design Engineer II

1             Summary

The successful incumbent will provide technical expertise to design, develop and build electrical circuits and control systems for special machinery and equipment. They will be involved in technical studies, specification compliance matrix, technical proposal, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, product testing and certification with support from other Engineers. In this role, the Electrical Design Engineer will coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems

2             Key Duties and Responsibilities
 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Design, develop, layout, test and troubleshoot electrical circuits and control systems;Use AutoCad ElectricialConstruct, modify and improve electrical schematics and control systems utilizing complex electrical design techniques;Work from schematics, diagrams, sketches and oral instructions to construct experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements;Develop schematics, assembly drawings, parts lists, etc;Create Job Instruction Sheets for wiring diagrams and sub-assembly;Preview designs or specifications for completeness, accuracy, adequacy and compliance with company and/or customer requirements;Provide direction to Assemblers and Technicians, with advice from other Engineers;Test Jig to improve productivity;Provide expert advice/ guidance / information directly to stakeholders to ensure effectiveness of service or goods in relation to the manufacturing process;Constantly scrutinize current methods and suggest improvement where possible;Provide troubleshooting guidance and/or training to associates;Make recommendations for productivity and/or method improvements;Ensure ISO guidelines are followed; follow Job Instruction Sheets and Tag Procedures etc;

Providing services and support to internal and external customers, suppliers

In this role, the incumbent will act as a technical liaison for manufacturing, installation, and operational testing for conformance to functional requirements and internal and external customer specifications. They will have daily contact with employees and external vendors to exchange information on electrical controls, equipment, products and systems for industrial applications.

Key resources: other people and/or capital and equipment

In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for conducting experimental tests and evaluating results. They will also determine the optimum design specifications, approaches and parameters.

Decision Making

In this role, the Electrical Design Engineer has extensive R&D experience that will allow them to design, draft and test aspects of electrical circuits and control systems. The incumbent of this role must be able to troubleshoot abstract concepts and provide solutions / calculations, as well as manage their workload on a daily basis.

3             Qualifications

Education and Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The incumbent of this role must have a University Degree in Electrical Engineering, a Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.), Mechanical Design with AutoCad and a minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or an equivalent of education and experience.

A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be capable of interpreting and designing documents such as policies and procedures, blueprints, operating and electrical diagrams, job instruction sheets and  procedure manuals. The ability to write Research and Development reports and to communicate effectively with co-workers and management is a requirement. Expert mathematical capabilities, including fundamentals of plane, solid geometry and trigonometry are necessary. A mechanical aptitude, ability to apply common sense and problem solve involving unknown variables in non-standardized situations is required.

Other required level of technical and/or practical judgment to perform the work:

Conducts original research, analyzes problems with equipment (hardware and software), and generates documentation for submission to the appropriate party; contacts outside resources for input into resolving problems, and applies corrective action; evaluates processes to determine their appropriateness and compatibility to company goals; and summarizes and reports recommendations to management.

The incumbent in this role will be in the Production Plant. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate. Safety boots, hearing protection and eye protection is required.
