Job Title: Electrical Design Technologist
Job Description

As a Distribution Technologist, you will be part of an engineering team, tasked with the maintenance and expansion of civil and electrical projects. Projects involve the installation, alteration, extension, and repair of a variety of electrical and civil equipment that are controlled, monitored, and automated by complex circuitry, electronics, and advanced communication networks.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare, create, modify, or review civil and electrical designs, such as Cable Chamber/Vault, equipment layouts, mechanical drawings, highway crossings, train track crossings, bridge crossings, and more.Complete drawings in accordance with Subsurface Utility Engineering Standards using Microstation.Review and calculate invert data for congested civil subsurface utility designs to generate sufficient profiles and cross sections.Read, understand, and interpret various types of underground civil utility drawings.Perform initial Quality Control (QC) of field deliverables according to standards and best practices.Communicate directly with field staff if there are any questions or clarifications required within the documents received from the field.Organize and review all field documents and files for completeness.Ensure utility record drawings are collected, complete, and thoroughly reviewed, including any drawings and plans provided by the client.Understand and correlate between utility records, construction plans, and field documents to document the presence of underground and/or aerial utilities.Work through and complete various types of deliverables and supporting documents, including drawings, reports, and traffic control plans.Essential Skills3-6 years of experience in Electrical Design (Overhead/Underground Distribution)3-6 years of experience with MicrostationProficiency in pole loading analysis, voltage drop calculations, and cable pulling calculationsWillingness to travel to site 10% of the timeAdditional Skills & QualificationsAmbition to learn civil design in the future, including underground and overhead utilitiesExperience with Toronto Hydro projectsExperience doing design work in downtown Toronto in congested areasAutoCAD experience is an assetSpidaCalc experience is an assetExperience with a Design Build ContractorEIT, CET, or similar certificates are supportedWork Environment

For the first 6 months, work is fully on-site, Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm, with flexible hours for personal appointments. After 6 months, a hybrid schedule is available with 3 days in-office and 2 days working from home. Tuesday and Thursday are mandatory in-office days. The team consists of 26 members, including design managers, supervisors, engineers, coordinators, and technicians. Technicians are mentored by engineers, fostering a supportive growth environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $44.00/hr.
