The electrical design group within Gannett Fleming is responsible for the analysis and design of electrical systems related to various facilities, utilities and infrastructure. Project types include life sciences facilities, industrial and commercial buildings, and water and wastewater treatment plants.
Our Raleigh, NC office is seeking a talented Electrical Designer to join the team.
In this role you will be assisting in the development of calculations, reports, code analysis and design documents, while progressively accepting more responsibility. Calculations will include short circuit, arc flash hazard, lighting, grounding and more. Design documents will include drawings and specifications including power plans, lighting plans, fire alarm plans, special systems plans, grounding plans, schematic and wiring diagrams.
Responsibilities:
Perform site surveys to assess existing electrical system conditions. Provide support during construction activities as needed. Prepare clear, complete, and accurate drawings from rough or detailed sketches. Apply the requirements of the National Electrical Code and engineering fundamentals to design. Work with lead engineer to determine intent and contents of each drawing. Start and maintain a discipline file of working drawings for the project in Autocad and/or Revit. Work independently on design projects to support Design Engineer and coordinate drafting efforts for projects. Size and specify electrical components and materials. Prepare equipment layouts and establish proper space requirements. Prepare power, lighting and special systems plans. Coordinate all electrical design work with other design disciplines (architectural, mechanical, site, plumbing). 3+ years’ experience ideally at an engineering or architectural/engineering firm. AutoCAD experience required. Revit experience highly desirable. Knowledge of low voltage power distribution is required. Knowledge of lighting design is preferred. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Detail oriented with a commitment to quality and accuracy. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree is a plus. Must be a collaborative team member able to meet tight deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
