Job Title: Electrical Distribution Design Engineer
Job Description
You will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems for electric utility customers. This role involves improving system reliability by replacing old equipment with new. You will review work provided by clients and assess the requirements of the scopes. Field work may be involved based on the support available, and design work will be completed using Open Utilities, a MicroStation-based CAD system.
Responsibilities
Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems.Review and assess work provided by clients.Conduct field work including taking photos and measurements of specific sites or circuits.Create designs based on field work information for final electrical packages.Perform energy analysis to ensure materials meet site requirements.Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered into SAP/Material Tracking Software.Assist with obtaining permits for utility lines crossing roads, easements, or private property.Submit completed electrical construction packages for approval and make necessary revisions.Utilize software such as Poleforman or PLA for structural analysis of poles.Work with NESC codes when making designs or selecting materials.Communicate frequently with clients via email, phone, and Teams.Essential Skills
Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, CAD Design, or Engineering Technology Degree in ME/EE.Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, or MicroStation.Knowledge of National Electric Safety Codes (NESC).Experience with distribution design and utility distribution.Experience with QA/Quality Assurance or QC/Quality Control.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with electric utilities such as Consumers Energy, DTE, AEP, Direct Energy, Atlantic Energy, Great American Power, Horizon Power and Light, Duke Energy, or NIPSCO.Experience with electric utility consulting firms like Sigma Technologies, Pike, Orbital, Metro Engineering Solutions, or Burns and Mac.Experience helping with training of new employees and writing process standards.Work Environment
You will work in one of the northern Michigan Territory offices located in Traverse City, Gaylord, Bay City, or Grand Rapids. If you live within a 45-minute distance of these locations, you will be required to come into the office. If you live further away, you have the opportunity to work fully remote. After a few months, hybrid flexibility may be possible. During your first 9 months, you will receive one week of vacation and 6 holidays. Once you become a direct employee, you will earn 2 weeks of vacation, 6 sick days, and 9 holidays.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00
