Electrical Distribution Engineer - Entry Level
Job Title: Electrical Distribution Engineer
Job Description

The individual will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems for electric utility customers. This role focuses on system reliability and improvement work by replacing old equipment or upgrading to new. The individual will review the work provided by the client and assess the requirements of the scopes. Field work may be required depending on available support, involving a combination of photos and measurements of specific sites or circuits. Design work will be completed using Open Utilities, a MicroStation-based CAD system. The candidate will also perform energy analysis to ensure selected materials meet site requirements and create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered in SAP/Material Tracking Software. The role may involve helping with permits for utility lines. Once the package is completed, it will be submitted for approval and used by construction crews.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems.Review and assess client-provided work scopes.Perform field work involving photos and measurements of specific sites or circuits.Complete design work using Open Utilities, a MicroStation-based CAD system.Perform energy analysis to ensure material selection meets site requirements.Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered in SAP/Material Tracking Software.Assist with permits for utility lines.Submit completed electrical construction packages for approval and revisions.Communicate frequently with clients via email, phone, and Teams.Essential SkillsExperience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, or MicroStation.Knowledge of NESC (National Electric Safety Code) codes.Experience with distribution construction and design standards.Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles.Ability to perform QA/Quality Assurance and QC/Quality Control tasks.Proficiency in using software like Poleforman, PLA/Pole Loading Analysis, and Katapault.Additional Skills & QualificationsElectrical Engineering Degree, Mechanical Engineering Degree, or Engineering Technology Degree in ME/EE.Entry-level designers with an associate degree in design or related distribution/utility experience will be considered.Experience working with electric utilities or electric utility consulting firms.Experience in training new employees and writing process standards.Work Environment

The work will be based in northern Michigan with offices in Traverse City, Gaylord, Bay City, and Grand Rapids. Candidates living within a 45-minute distance to one of these locations will be required to come into the office. Those outside this distance have the opportunity to work fully remote. In-office employees may gain hybrid flexibility after a few months but will still require a significant amount of office time. The role involves frequent communication with clients and collaboration with the Quality Control team.
