The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

 

 

Responsibilities

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to\:

·         Perform electrical design engineering to create and modify hardware and provide automation throughout the Kennedy Ground Control System, which controls our hardware and its performance for health monitoring and launch operations.

·         Demonstrate moderate to above-average working knowledge in applicable industry engineering standards and be able to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.

·         Lead engineering projects and assign tasks to peers with the group.

·         Support technical presentations to management and customers.

·         Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications – External

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution; at least four years of experience

Depending on the candidate’s experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

 

·         Minimum of 4 years of relevant electrical engineering design experience of PLC based distributed control systems including HMI, instrumentation, and electrical systems for automation applications. Experience with Alan Bradley PLCs preferred.

·         Experience in product lifecycle systems and the ability to develop and perform oversight of technical evaluations, engineering, calculations, and requirements reviews.

·         Produce Electrical Drawings in AutoCad including Schematics, BOMs, Wire Run List (WRLs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), enclosure/panel layouts, etc.

·         Familiarity with control panel design including system level components specification and integration.

·         Experience with industrial networks including Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, and networking devices is expected.

·         Working knowledge of industry design standards such as UL508A and NFPA 70 is ideal.

·         Familiarity with the latest design and safety regulations for electrical control panels including those in hazardous locations such as Class I, Division 2.

·         Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Windchill, Teamcenter, etc., is a plus.

·         Ability to create, support, and present technical presentations to management and customers.

·         Ability to lead design initiatives and demonstrate strong communication between teams and in internal and external meetings.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements

Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting. Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary. Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment. Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.  Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.

 Work Environment

All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards. Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

 Equipment and Machines

Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers. Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance. Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

 Attendance

Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week. Must be dependable and punctual. Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule  

Other Essential Functions

If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required. Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills. Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives. Government security clearance may be required in the future. Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management. Must possess and maintain a valid CDL with endorsements Florida driver’s license. Must pass a federal background investigation. Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
