About the job:
Kent is looking for a Electrical Engineer to be based in Houston, Texas.
You will be part of our Kent Houston Offshore Engineering Team involved the detailed design of new offshore fixed and floating facilities for oil and gas or renewable energy projects and designing upgrades and solving challenging problems for our clients’ existing onshore and offshore assets. This position is based in our office in Houston, TX with the possibility of up to 10% domestic/international travel.
Skills and Responsibilities: Provide electrical technical support in areas including but not limited to: Main and Auxiliary Diesel and Gas Turbine Generators, Integrated Electrical Plants (hybrid and full), Low Voltage AC and DC, and Medium Voltage AC Electrical Plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electrical Plant Load Analyses (EPLA), One-Line Diagrams, Power Load Flow, Harmonic Power Quality, Transient System and Fault Current Analyses, Circuit Breaker Protective Coordination Studies, Machinery Centralized Control Systems (MCCS). Perform electrical feasibility and selection for design in electrical systems with generators, motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, uninterruptable power systems (UPS), control panels, HVAC controls, lighting systems, surveillance and communication systems, cables, timers, circuit breakers, power panels, batteries, relays, and other electrical components. Work with and create one-line diagrams, electrical plant load analysis (EPLA), utilizing load factors, power factors, and power factor correction (leading and lagging). Determine root cause failures and correct them. Write customer system specific installation and operator maintenance manuals which include detailed drawings, test plans and procedures. Provide regulatory interpretations that translate into technical requirements which can be understood by contractors and field personnel. Ability to support specific areas in proposals and willingness to learn larger proposal support efforts.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering. This level may be achieved by technical professionals with a minimum of 4+ years of Oil & Gas Offshore experience since Bachelor’s degree. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required. Professional Engineer certification/registration is preferred or ability to obtain with 6 months of hire. Proficiency with AutoCAD, NAVISWORKS and power system analysis and design software such as SKM Power Tools, ETAP or other. Familiar with Machinery Control Systems and PLC/HMI/Automation/Controls. Minimum 4 years of experience working as an electrical engineer on major Oil and Gas projects. Knowledge of electrical related codes and standards including but not limited to NEMA, NFPA, ABS MVR/NVR, USCG, SOLAS, DNV and Commercial Specs (e.g., IEEE, ANSI/ASTM). Communication:Strong Verbal and written communication skills with complex technical issues.Strong persuasive ability, technical writing and communications skills are required for this position, proven through such technical presentations, technical papers and/or participation in technical committees that will demonstrate an advanced state-of-the-art technical expertise. Behavior/ Core Competencies:
Self-starter. Multi-task capability. Technically savvy with strong analytical skills. The ability to create graphical representations and PowerPoint slide packs. Participation in professional organizations (e.g., IEEE, SNAME).Team player. Upholds professional ethics and standards of conduct.
