**Position Title:** Electrical Engineer I, II, III, or Senior (Substation Apparatus)
**OPEN UNTIL FILLED**

**Position Purpose:**
The entry-level Electrical Engineer I position is responsible for reviewing testing, and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment like transformers, circuit breakers, insulators, disconnect switches, DC battery bank systems and other substation equipment. Ensuring they meet safety standards, performance specifications, and reliability requirements within Basin Electric’s Transmission grid. This position often collaborates with other engineering teams and works closely with manufacturers to replace legacy equipment, implement new designs, and troubleshoot issues with high voltage substation apparatus. **This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position which may involve physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.**
**Essential Functions:**
+ Support projects involving the design, procurement, installation, and upgrading of high-voltage substation apparatus.
+ Troubleshoot issues related to high-voltage equipment performance.
+ Provide technical support for equipment failure investigations and root cause analyses.
+ Coordinate outages for construction and maintenance projects.
+ Develop and implement maintenance strategies and schedules for high-voltage apparatus to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.
+ Perform infrared inspections and audits on high voltage equipment.
+ Analyze periodic maintenance test data to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
+ Maintain an assortment of apparatus databases such as Doble, Perception, Eagle Eye and insulating oil DGAs.
+ Provide technical guidance to maintenance and operations teams.
+ Assist with Transmission Availability Report (TAR) detailing Basin Electric equipment and line outages and operations including supporting ITOA outage database.
+ Assist with Transmission Availability Data System (TADS) reports, MIDAS, NATF, and other availability reporting.
+ Work with field and drafting personnel to complete record drawings, while providing quality control of record drawings by drawing modification content and determining whether other drawings are affected by field modifications.
+ Perform arc flash studies and ensure ongoing compliance with NFPA 70E standards.
+ Perform all work in compliance with NERC CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection), PRC (Protection and Control), and FAC (Facilities Design, Connections, and Maintenance) standards.
**Qualifications** **:**
**Electrical Engineer I - Apparatus:**
+ Bachelor’s degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC)/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited electrical engineering program.
**Electrical Engineer II - Apparatus:**
+ Bachelor’s degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC)/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited electrical engineering program and
+ Three years of related electrical engineering experience.
+ Engineer in training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) certificate.
**Electrical Engineer III - Apparatus:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited electrical engineering program and
+ Six years of related engineering experience.
+ Engineer in training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) certificate.
+ Prior experience involving the procurement, installation, upgrade, or lifecycle management of high-voltage substation electrical apparatus is preferred.
+ A Professional Engineering (PE) registration is preferred.
**Senior Electrical Engineer - Apparatus:**
+ Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited electrical engineering program and
+ Ten years of related engineering experience.
+ Prior experience involving the procurement, installation, upgrade, or lifecycle management of high-voltage substation electrical apparatus.
+ A Professional Engineering (PE) registration.
**Other Requirements:**
+ Broad technical knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
+ A valid driver’s license.

**Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:**
This position requires frequent sitting; and occasional standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, use of keyboard/computer, pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds, and lifting/carrying more than 50 pounds. Requires finger dexterity, good hearing and vision, and the ability to perform close work. Requires the ability to analyze data/reports and conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures, and goals; and present information to others. May be required to work under pressure due to conflicting priorities and deadlines. Occasionally works in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, and confined areas. May be required to occasionally work at heights up to 50 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. The incumbent must be respirator qualified and able to operate a motor vehicle. Travel to plant sites and substations are required, either by operating a motor vehicle or traveling in Cooperative or commercial aircraft. Equipment operated includes computers, various control devices, electrical test equipment, and normal shop tools.
