Electrical Engineer II - Home Standby Installation

The Electrical Engineer II-Home Standby Installation is responsible for providing engineering input to the product development projects assigned to him/her including interfacing with the cross functional team consisting of Engineering, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Sourcing, Quality and Service.  This role specifically supports Generac’s Residential Home Standby business with a focus on delivering design innovations and process solutions that increase installation efficiency to reduce total cost of ownership for our customers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline

2 or more years of relevant work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in new product design and development preferably within electromechanical design integration and packaging

Experience with PCBA design, fabrication, and manufacturing

Hands on experience running tests on complex electronic components and/or systems including the use of oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other various electronic test equipment/meters

Experience developing component and/or system level test plans, test procedures, and test reports

Experience in the design layout and packaging of electromechanical components and systems

Experience with harnessing and cabling designs and assemblies

Experience with schematic capture tools (hardware position)

Experience in power management systems (inverters, converters, DC BUS management, PID boost tuning)

Knowledge of power supplies (inverters/ dc-dc converters) and power handling

Experience in microprocessor hardware interfacing techniques (e.g., IIC, SPIbus, EEprom, etc.)

Experience with Windchill or other PDM release systems

Essential Duties:

Designs, validates, and brings new products and solutions to market 

Provide new product development in the Residential and/or Retail generator product area including Creating and maintaining schematics/layouts/BOMs, supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs), Interfacing with internal company personnel, provide technical support for assigned projects

Develop and implement design modifications to support the launch of new product features and innovations to reduce total cost of customer ownership

Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates moderately complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety

Create and maintain Statements of Requirements (SOR), schematics, and BOMs

Oversee prototype testing, troubleshooting, and validation, making necessary design adjustments to meet functional, performance, and safety requirements

Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for issues identified during the development process, testing, manufacturing process, and/or field

Create, design, and develop test specifications for new systems and firmware/software

Develop Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA’s, and provide recommendations during Design Reviews

Troubleshoot designs to the component level

Collaborate with other engineers, internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize complex designs

Stay up to date with evolving industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to power electronics, electrical systems, energy generation and storage systems

Utilizes PCB and Schematic design tools to develop new hardware solutions

Develops less experienced engineers

Good decision-making skills

Technical Skills to include 3D modeling (Creo or SolidWorks)

MS Office, Smartsheet, Altium

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
