Job Description:

Position: Electrical Engineer (Substation Design)

Responsibilities:

Interpret, organize, execute, budget, and coordinate complex assignments. Plan and develop projects addressing unique or controversial problems impacting major CDM Smith programs. Maintain liaison with internal and external units, acting independently on technical matters within your specialty. Represent CDM Smith at conferences to resolve key issues and coordinate work. Adhere to CDM Smith’s core values, ethics, and professional conduct, and comply with leadership competencies. Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct large projects or several small projects with complex features. Lead new business development activities within your expertise. Utilize advanced techniques and modify theories and practices of electrical design based on progressive experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. 5+ years of experience in detailed design for high voltage substation projects up to 345kV, including: Protective relay schemes Relay schematics and wiring diagrams Transmission and distribution type substations AIS substations Grounding and lightning protection design AC/DC systems including battery calculations Specification of substation outdoor equipment including detailed BOM Outside yard equipment layout and electrical clearance diagrams SCADA and other communication systems (RTU replacements, fiber equipment, line carrier relay equipment) Knowledge of NESC Experience supervising and coordinating the work of CADD operators, technicians, and others, and reviewing 3D models developed in AutoCAD, Revit, etc. Preparation of electrical one-line drawings, site, and building plan drawings to show electrical equipment layout. Coordination with other disciplines to identify design progress issues. Performing short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies using power systems analysis software (preferably SKM). Leading medium to large scale electrical design projects involving power distribution, lighting, communications, fire alarm, and security systems design. Reviewing shop drawings and assisting with general construction services. Developing design criteria, specifications, and standards. Performing independently on all assignments with minimal technical/administrative instructions. Devising new approaches to encountered problems and coordinating various technical aspects of work. Participating in new business development and monitoring budgets to assess profitability. Staying updated on changes in the field of electrical engineering and motivating junior staff. Performing project management functions for small and moderate-sized projects. Planning, developing, coordinating, and directing several large projects or a project of major scope and complexity. Conducting research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity through a series of complete and conceptually related studies.
