Electrical Engineer - Traffic Signal Design & Roadway Lighting (Senior)

Role description:

The primary focus is Traffic Signal and/or Roadway Lighting design for transportation facilities and the successful candidate will work with technical staff to prepare preliminary, and detailed traffic/intersection design Drawings, Estimates, Specifications, and Proposals. You will also assist in preparing reports as to the nature, status and results of design or study assignments.

This role will also include working on client relationship building and management including taking part in business development activities, proposal preparation, organizing staff resources, establishing project budgets and schedules. You will communicate effectively with clients and internal team members (Engineers, Architects, Designers and Project Managers) in the design and specification development of electrical, lighting and communications systems projects within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.

Role accountabilities:

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to the successful design, production, coordination and management of Traffic Signal Design and Lighting projects. You will develop traffic signal, lighting or auxiliary systems designs in AutoCAD and/or Microstation such as layout, single line diagrams, wiring schematics, photometric layouts, grounding details, prepare and review wire sizing, voltage drop and conduit capacity calculations.You will also render utility coordination duties for Electrical Transport related Design and Construction Projects and prepare technical reports, tender documentation and field support (including commissioning, Traffic signal turn-on, and site inspection).

This person will ensure that Engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices, review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs and ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final reports.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Completed Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Traffic/Civil Engineering

• 10 years relevant experience in intersection/traffic signal design, ideally in a design-consulting or utility environment

• Must have or be eligible for the P. Eng. designation in Ontario

• Must be proficient with AutoCAD and Microstation

• Proficient with AGI 32

• Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Book 12, 15, 5, & 7), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Canada (MUTCDC), and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada

• A valid driver's license and vehicle is required

• Experience with O.Reg 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities

• Experience with pole loading software i.e. SPIDAcalc or equivalent is an asset

• Experience performing electrical site inspections, construction supervision and contract administration

• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering various complex projects with large size and scope

• Experience working on MTO Minor and Major Electrical projects

• MTO Major RAQS qualified is an asset

The salary range for this position is $80,126 - $126,830. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
