Electrical Engineering internship: stochastic signal processing methods
Introduction

Within ASML, the Development & Engineering (D&E) sector is responsible for the specification and the development of ASML products. This assignment is within the department of the cluster Electronic Development (EDEV), responsible for the definition, realization, qualification and integration of electronic functions and modules within these products. In our group we develop electronic circuit boards (PCBAs) which mostly contain an FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) for which HDL (Hardware Description Language) code is developed. This code is referred to as Embedded Logic. Sometimes the FPGA contains a soft core of which the code is referred to as firmware. Most projects we work on are for our so-called DUV (Deep Ultra Violet light) systems.

Your assignment

As an intern in the team, you will use stochastic signal processing methods for quantification of crosstalk on PCBAs. For this assignment, some of your tasks will include:

Getting acquainted with the basics of stochastic signal processing methods;

Making an inventory of possible crosstalk propagation paths from noise source to the affected signal path on PCBs and interconnects;

Performing simulations based on the identified propagation paths using deterministic signals to determine the optimum processing parameters;

Selecting an appropriate test object(s); this might be a signal-processing PCB, interconnect or combination of both;

Performing measurements, process the results and compare with the simulations;

Comparing the results with existing crosstalk measurement methods like (frequency) spectrum analysis;

Writing a report with the results found, including the way these results are obtained (test set-up, motivation for the applied signal processing tools) and provide solid conclusions and recommendations.

This is a master graduation internship for 3-5 days a week (3 days onsite) with a duration of 6 to 12 months. The start date is as soon as possible.

Your profile

To be a perfect fit for this assignment, you:

Have a background in Electrical Engineering, or in Experimental Physics, Mechatronics;

Are interested in stochastic signal processing;

Have knowledge of electrical measurements and equipment;

Have experience with simulation tools (e.g. Spice), MATLAB or Python;

Are solution oriented and have a hands-on mentality, and have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship

You need to be located in the Netherlands to be able to perform your internship. In case you ‘re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter must include the willingness to relocate.

If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
