POSITION SUMMARY
Marathon Petroleum Company’s (MPC) Illinois Refining Division in Robinson, IL has an opening for an Electrical Equipment Reliability Engineer. We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual. The Electrical Equipment Reliability Engineer will provide technical support for our reliability and maintenance teams and manage on-going initiatives to maximize the availability of electrical equipment. The position requires interfacing with craft technicians, craft advisors, reliability engineers, project engineers, process engineers, operations personnel, supervision, and management.
Relocation is approved for this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a strong working knowledge of MPC specifications and standards as well as the latest industry best practices (RAGAGEPS), technology and equipment design.
Provide subject matter support in technical functions for work scopes including maintenance, design, operation, construction, and troubleshooting of refinery electrical systems.
Provide quality assurance, technical support, compliance, and consistent application of MPC and industry standards, specifications, and procedures to Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Planning for new and existing equipment installations.
Develop and deliver site training to educate, inform, and guide refinery personnel on the application of technical and safety standards and practices for electrical equipment and systems.
Develop and manage maintenance/reliability driven programs to maintain the integrity of equipment and facilities.
Develop and manage electrical system studies with ETAP which include load flows, short circuit, relay coordination, arc flash, grounding, and motor start studies.
Develop and maintain final relay set points and logic configuration settings for site transmission, substation, and distribution systems.
Participate in the development and implementation strategies for maintaining electrical infrastructure, including monitoring plans, preventive maintenance plans, and predictive maintenance activities.
Develop and revalidate electrical testing procedures, maintenance procedures, and QA/QC checklists.
Review equipment history to identify bad actor equipment with high maintenance cost or high cost of downtime. Champion development of corrective solutions and cost justification for reliability improvements to bad actors.
Lead or participate in maintenance, reliability, or equipment-related incident investigations.
Provide technical support for electrical system outages, unit shutdowns, and turnarounds including scope development, planning, execution, and system turnover.
Ensure Management of Change (MOC) process is followed for changes initiated by maintenance and reliability. Ensure equipment repairs and new installations are properly documented, spare part lists maintained, and equipment specific information updated.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum (Required) Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
Two years of relevant experience is required.
A valid driver's license
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Able to work off-hour duties such as plant shutdowns and routine on-call support.
Able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
Three to five years of post-degree engineering experience working with electrical equipment in the refining, petrochemical, or other related heavy industry.
Experience with electrical equipment design, applicable codes, and repairs as well as associated equipment specific failure modes are preferred.
Experience with electrical switchgear, motors, transformers, motor controls, uninterruptable power supply battery systems, NFPA 70E, ETAP, protective relay programming (SEL, GE Multilin).

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
The core hours of the position are Monday – Thursday, 10 hours a day, also requiring off-hours and unit outage support as needed.
