Electrical Estimator / Project Manager

The Electrical Project Manager / Estimator reports directly to the Construction Manager of Alberta Region and will lead multiple projects through their overall life cycle, from conception through to completion. Scope of responsibilities include project planning, estimating, bidding/tenders, staffing, implementation, billing, controlling and evaluation of projects, primarily in commercial and institutional sectors. It is essential that the Electrical Project Manager / Estimator establish and maintain excellent relationships with the Company’s trade contractors, consultants and customers.

Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Plans in conjunction with the Construction Manager to execute projects in accordance with Black & McDonald corporate policies and construction business processes
Prepares progress reports and issues progress schedules to customersReviews work/contracts/WIP for areas of risk, updates WIP reports and corrects deficienciesBuilds and maintains customer and supplier/vendor relationships to enhance competitiveness in the industry and promote good customer relationships; identifies potential business opportunitiesPrepares and submits construction project budget estimates for data entry into JD EdwardsPlans and prepares construction schedules and milestones and monitors progress against established schedulesNegotiates revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with consultants, customers, suppliers and subcontractorsComplies with Safety Management System; one site safety inspections weekly (4 per month)Manages the implementation of quality control programsWorks with the foreman or superintendent as a team to review the project documents and discuss labour requirements and staffing; hires and supervises the activities of union labour, subcontractors and subordinate staffSolicits and submits shop drawings between vendors and owners for approvalPrepares operation maintenance manualsWorks with central purchasing for obtaining material and equipment purchasing for secured jobsTravels to various sites or customers to undertake the above objectivesMonthly progress billingsCoordination of tools and equipment

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

An electrical trade certification, electrical engineering degree or electrical technologist diploma/certificate

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least 5 years experience in electrical project management and estimating of commercial and institutional projects (up to $5M)Previous experience as a supervisor and/or superintendent, beneficialPreference will be given to candidates who have estimated and/or managed projects in Alberta

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate level experience with estimating programs; Accubid experience essentialStrong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and JD EdwardsComprehensive understanding of estimating, forecasting and scheduling in order to provide strategic and fiscal information to clients and managementExcellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to shift priorities and adapt one's working hours accordingly as per project requirementsAbility to work in a team environment with commitment to project excellenceCommunicates effectively both verbal and writtenWilling and able to travel as required
