Timmons Group is currently seeking an Electrical Medium Voltage Engineer II/III to join our Power Engineering & System Planning Group located in our Charlotte, NC office location. The position’s core responsibilities creating collector system layout design for renewable energy project deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class. Opportunities to advance into leadership/management roles are available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
Participate in preparation of proposals and scope development, including:Conceptual designs and execution plansEngineering/project cost estimates and schedulesExecution of engineering activitiesWork with the DC designers or the Wind Turbine Layout in preparation of collector system including installation plan and detailsPerform AC cable ampacity calculationsAnalyze and determine feeder loadingAssist with Utility interconnection supportPrepare IEEE Effective grounding study to confirm safe step-and-touch potentialsArc flash studies Hazard Assessment low and medium voltageEvaluate system short circuit and voltage profile.Review static reactive capabilities and size the reactive power equipment accordinglyLightning shielding study to verify the apparatus is protected against direct lightning strikesInterface with Utility, as required, in the design of capacitor and LTC controls for various system configurationsOther Studies include transient Switching, Load Flow Study, Power Factor, Transient Over-Voltage (TOV) and Harmonic Analysis StudyEquipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testingCoordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)Develop and improve processes, tools and/or technology implementationsProvide training and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team membersOther areas of involvement may include 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvementSkills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited programMinimum 3-5 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)Engineer In Training Certification / Professional Engineer registration strongly preferredProficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI StandardStrong preference for those withExcellent written & verbal communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsCapability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteriaAdditional InformationThe requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
