Position Overview

Our Industrial and Water market is growing across North America, and we are adding Electrical Project Managers who know how to estimate,  to our team in Lenexa. to support the execution of critical and first-of-a-kind industrial projects.   To be successful bidding and winning projects, we need an Estimating Manager with expertise in electrical and/or instrumentation controls systems design/construction, who are skilled in reading/understanding contracts from an engineering and construction perspective to lead an estimating team  for new Industrial projects.   You will be expected to oversee the estimating process for your assigned projects, work in a heavily matrixed environment to develop/finalize project electrical/I&C estimates from initial concept to final execution of Pre-FEED, FEED, EPC and Design/Build projects.  Our Industrial business will continue to expand which means opportunities to grow your career learning new industries and technologies.

Core objectives include functional understanding and interpretation of RFP documents or conceptional design application and historical past cost.  Additional responsibilities include fostering the development and growth of the estimating staff through mentoring and improved work processes to meet the needs of projects.

Location

This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office.   We do offer relocation assistance. 

Responsibilities

• Develop complete discipline specific estimates for very large, complex industrial projects for electrical equipment and systems.  
• Read/interpret contract requirements and specifications and develop notes for the unique or extraordinary items and capable of addressing technical challenges or inconsistencies during bid preparation.  
• Know how to build the project (best practices, sequence, geographical challenges etc.).  
• Understand what design deliverables by discipline are required and assure that the delivery schedule is met 
• Verify quantities and deliverables meet estimate required.  
• Coordinate with design team to influence lowest cost of construction through facilitation of Cross-Discipline Communication 
• Train and mentor other estimators.
• Stay current on various trends and developments such as new equipment, means & methods, and procedures developing in the industry or specialized discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, etc.).  
• Understand project past cost data for benchmarking to compare to estimates.   Will be expected to perform site visits to learn our building methods and processes and past cost generation.
• Communicate with Senior Managers on a regular basis - Communicate critical issues and estimate assumptions up to the Managers as they arise to ensure everyone is on the same page for the reviews to eliminate late changes. 
• Schedule and prepare and lead estimate reviews 
• Conduct detailed formal reviews of all engineered equipment, subcontract, and permanent material pricing. 
• Prepare special studies or reports required by the unusual nature of some bid items or conditions.  

Qualifications BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering field, Construction Management, Project Management or related field.   5+ years of experience in estimating, or experience in construction, in a construction leadership role, where you are working with estimating functions for Electrical or I&C aspects of projects Some leadership experience required, and an interest in growing your career to lead other estimating teams in completing complex estimates for large industrial projects.   Diverse project experience in engineering/construction and experience with Pre-Feed, FEED, D/B or EPC projects If no degree, must have at least 10 years working in Engineering/Construction in Operations, Field Engineering or in Project Management, with a strong understanding of managing a project from design to final construction and knowledge of estimating functions in terms of how to build a project with electrical and I&C components/systems.        Experience with estimating software, like Hard Dollar or similar software Experience with estimating functions from a design perspective and comfortable presenting estimates to key stakeholders. Strong attention to detail; strong communication, interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, train, and facilitate a team to complete estimates on time.   Strong driver, with emotional intelligence to be able to work accomplished in a matrixed environment  Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint)
