What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: As lead engineer, you will be responsible for total delivery of the mechanical deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations for electrical/instrumentation specialty needs within our Maintenance & Reliability division. Duties may include performing advanced engineering work serving as a technical specialist for a complex engineering assignment. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in mechanical engineering and involves utilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performed under very little supervision.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity providing full benefits, competitive compensation, and upward mobility opportunities. This position is open to being located anywhere within the U.S. with mobilization and travel to support company needs.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Capable of analyzing data from equipment history records (SAP, equipment files, vendor research) as basis for reliability plans.

Extensive experience in rotating machinery reliability (pumps, fans, compressors, centrifuges, conveyors, agitators, gearboxes, bearings, mechanical seals, couplings).

Extensive knowledge in the use and application of predictive technologies (vibration, lubricant & fluid analysis, infrared, alignment, balancing, and other NDT technologies as applied to Rotating Machinery).

Analyze failures and recommend corrective action.

Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) teams and use the Apollo RCFA method where appropriate.

Lead Reliability-focused Failure Modes and Effects Analyses teams where appropriate.

Partner with SM Engineering Dept and Sites to establish Design Standards for Rotating Machinery.

Functional Owner of the Rotating Machinery elements of the Specialty Materials' Inspection, Testing and Preventive Maintenance standards for OSHA 1910.119 Mechanical Integrity element of Process Safety Management.

Maintain currency with developments in the vibration and lubrication fields to recommend improvements to current practices.

Maintain coordination with all team members for information, specific job scope and efficient design.

Actively cooperate with members of your project team, client personnel and members of your department.

Perform all work to the best of your ability and in an expedient and efficient manner.

Make a particular point of establishing a mutually respectful professional as well as personal relationship with key client personnel with whom you interact.

Mentor and train inexperienced engineers and designers to assist in the performance of their assignments; providing experience and good engineering practices for the industries related to the project assignment.

Contribute time to the betterment of the company through activities such as preparation of standard specifications, improved work processes or methods, training of others in the department, participation in proposal efforts, production of technical papers, etc.

Ideal Background

Education: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

Experience: This position normally requires a minimum of + years of relevant experience in reliability engineering. Additional experience supporting shop fabrication and inspections specific to nonmetallic (such as FRP – fiberglass reinforced plastic) equipment (tanks, vessels) is preferred.

Key responsibilities and skillsets needed for this role includes:

Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.

Understanding human factors in reliability.

Able to develop and administer reliability information systems for failure analysis, Design and performance improvement.

Reliability program management over the entire product life cycle.

Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.

Able to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.

Develop design criteria and scope of work.

Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform engineering and design functions.

Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry in excess of 25 lbs.
