Purpose and Scope:
The Technician Trainee position is a developmental position in the field of electrical/electronics engineering technology that will yield system experts that can provide advanced and specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities to ensure successful installation and restoration of key operating equipment for the steel business. The position exists to develop the technical and working knowledge of the Technician Trainee so that they may ultimately advance to a Technician II role, solving problems and completing improvement projects on their own. Depending on the initial skills/experience that the Technician in Training brings, the development process may last up to 3 years before final consideration/evaluation for advancement to the Technician Role.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and plan for the repair of all electronic and equipment removed from the field due to malfunctions or defects. This includes tracking status of repairs, assessing the quality of the repairs, and maintaining stock of spare parts. Responsible for continuous learning and development of technical and working skills through attendance of training classes with vendors, online, Technicians, and successful completion of on-the-job training. Areas of exposure/development include: PLC Hardware/Software, AC/DC Circuit Analysis, Radio Controlled Equipment, AC/DC Drives, Instrumentation & Process Control, Electronic Testing/Repair, Electrical Measurements, Communications/Networking, Cranes/Crane Control, Drive Setup, Specialized Sensors, Basic Hydraulics/Pneumatics, Basic Robotics, etc. Provide support to Technicians, Maintainers, Operators, and Engineers to correct malfunctions, enhance performance and promote continuous improvement. Perform all assigned duties under the guidance of the assigned Technician, which may involve: Attending and pass online training classes Assisting with troubleshooting/repairs of electrical and process control problems Assisting with calibrations and preventative maintenance on electronic and electromechanical equipment Completing projects assigned as part of the development process Begin utilizing technical and working skills obtained by troubleshooting and subsequently solving/repairing electronic and electrical control system problems. Participate in both technical and working skill set tests/evaluations at the request of the Technician or Manager. Effectively perform and complete all assigned project work efficiently, on time and safely within a fast-paced work environment.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma with at least 1 year of an industrial/electrical apprenticeship or industrial/electrical experience (experience in manufacturing preferred).
Preferred Requirements:
Associate's degree in electrical technology or related with no relevant experience required.
