UnspecifiedRaytheon ELCAN is a vertically integrated manufacturing facility, with research, design, procurement and manufacturing teams pressing novel technologies in the Aerospace & Defense Markets. We are located in Midland, Ontario. The Co-op student will gain experience interfacing with all facets of ELCAN’s operations (Sales, Supply Chain, Design, and Manufacturing) throughout the 8 -16 month placement.
Reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, the Electrical Engineering Co-op will use commercial software such as Altium, Quartus, Labview, MPLAB and Inventor to design, evaluate and verify a wide variety of Electro-optic systems. Design tasks include Schematic Capture, PCB Layout, Embedded C, Verilog and Labview. Primary tasks include conceptual design, optimization of preliminary designs to achieve required performance parameters, design analysis by computer simulation, modelling of manufacturing effects, and prediction of “as-built” design performance. The Electrical Engineering Co-op will also build and debug prototype circuits and debug the code that runs on these circuits. Basic soldering and use electrical test equipment to repair and debug prototype circuits. Participate in research to ensure potential design concepts are feasible, and can be manufactured within given cost constraints. They will also assist in review and approval of test set-up and procedures, to ensure manufactured hardware meets agreed requirements. Successful products require the Electrical Engineering group to work collaboratively with various other engineering and production groups at Raytheon ELCAN that form the integrated product development team (IPDT). Good presentation and communication skills are essential. Raytheon ELCAN designs various optical and opto-electronic system, modules and sub-modules operating in different wavebands, with particular emphasis on infrared and visible systems. Experience with optical systems would be advantageous but not required.
