Summary About the Position: This position is located within the US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Regional Rivers Repair Fleet, Light Capacity Fleet, with duty location in Old Hickory, TN, where you will perform a variety of electrical maintenance and repairs to facilities located on or at repair stations, floating plant, locks and dams, and land based plant electrical systems and equipment. Responsibilities Perform a variety of electrical maintenance and repairs to facilities located on or at repair stations, floating plant, locks and dams, and land based plant electrical systems and equipment. Repair, maintain, and use of a wide range of standard and complex industrial equipment that operates based on electrical/electronic systems or combinations of integrated electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems. Troubleshoot, repair, modify, overhaul, maintain and install electrical systems, instruments, motors, controllers, electrical machinery and equipment, communications systems, alarm systems, air conditioning and refrigerating systems, pumps. Plan, coordinate set up, and install the electrical distribution, telephone, and wireless systems at various sites to support the repair station or fleets mission. Knowledge of both marine and standard methods, techniques, principles, and trade practices. Stay abreast with the applicable National Electric Code and Coast Guard Regulations. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician without more than normal supervision. Installing, repairing, modifying, troubleshooting, loading and testing new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures and controls. I can perform the following duties: diagnosing, modifying, overhauling, repairing and maintaining a variety of electrical devices, equipment and components. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability To Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Theory and Instruments (Electrical Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Trouble shooting (electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work may be performed in buildings, various items of floating plant, or on outside electrical power lines. May make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, and where the parts of the systems worked on are hard to reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or occasionally more. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs steps and ladders, and frequently performs lifting of up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to dangers inherent to Repair Station operations on the floating plant and the repair operations such as, but not limited to, drowning, capsizing, falling, and being struck by loads. The majority of work is performed in confined areas subject to exhaust, flames, fuel oil, and cramped positions. Due to extremely high noise levels, hearing protection is required. Works around moving machinery where there is a danger of sustaining cuts and bruises. Works in confined and cramped conditions and spaces and is subject to dangers associated with welding, flame cutting and general structural/mechanical maintenance and repairs. Works indoors and outdoors, subject to all types of weather. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One-year probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required.
