GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Responsibilities include, working on assigned projects with limited or no supervision while performing installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems ensuring the work is performed in accordance with all relevant codes and safety standards.

Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical malfunctions and equipment using various test instruments; maintain and repair electrical systems; test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency; fabricate electrical parts; participates in the maintenance and operation of electrical tools and equipment used by the operation Troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical systems including electric motors, electric controls, scales, and other electric equipment (locomotives, plant radios, and electric tools) Test & monitor electrical systems, equipment, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem Ensures the proper function of electrical safety devices Installs, troubleshoots and repairs new equipment and systems Monitors work done for adherence to the NEC requirements Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction Maintains appropriate service and repair records, (records necessary for MSHA) Analyze and responds safely and appropriately to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service Follows blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to conform to the building and safety codes Knowledge of safety procedures and precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electrical and mechanical equipment The ability to advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous Knowledge of the mining process and equipment associated with such is a plus (conveyors, crushing and screening equipment, mobile equipment, etc.) Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment and systems used in the electrical trade Knowledge of State and Federal Codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade. Knowledge of the methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment Any other duties as assigned by management

 

PREREQUISTE:  Must be in current position for at least 6 months and have an electrical background and possess Electrician Journeyman card.   In addition to meeting satisfactory attendance and performance requirements. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Virginia Electrical license preferred  Must be able to work rotating shifts as needed Minimum 4 years on the job electrical maintenance training Basic Computer Logic and Programming Work well in a team environment as well as individually with contractors, customers, peers and management in general  Read & Use the operator’s manuals and fill out simple reports such as pre-shift inspection forms Carry out simple oral & written instructions & deal with simple problems from standardized situations Have knowledge of the machines’ mechanics Know safety, environmental and other federal, state and local regulations needed for the job Demonstrate safe, productive job performance       

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.   Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.   Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with other departments and different levels within the organization. 

                 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up 50+ pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
