The primary purpose of this position is to install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain various electrical systems, controls and equipment. Responsibilities Installs, repairs or replaces, modifies. loads and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers and controls located in and installation buildings and structures. Troubleshoots problem areas and inspects for defective equipment and faulty wiring. Installs, overhauls, repairs, fabricates and /or modifies various types of electronically controlled industrial equipment characterized by moderate complexity of design, construction and function. Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders and pipe threading machines. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Trouble shooting (electrical) Ability To distinguish either basic or shades of color and possession of emotional and mental stability. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Is Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications. Adherence to all facility work rules and housekeeping/cleanliness. Demonstrates working knowledge and adherence to Arc-Flash and LOTO requirements. Demonstrates proper use of electrical measuring devices such as multimeters, insulation resistance meters, and power analyzers. Also demonstrates proper use of hand and power tools such as drills, saws. Proficient using powered and hand conduit benders and threaders. Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures. Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot and repair a variety of complete systems. Knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits for power, timing and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, similar devices and a variety of technical data, such as schematics, diagrams and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices and of electrical equipment, ie., test lamps, multimeters. circuit/power analyzers, circuit breakers testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohm meters and ammeters. Skill in using and maintaining hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire-cutters, strippers, cable pullers, drills, soldering irons and manual or power conduit benders and threaders. Skill in troubleshooting and tracing hard to locate defects or problems. Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
