Summary You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the PRODUCTION DIVISION, PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC. Responsibilities You will serve as a working leader over at least three trades and crafts employees. You will follow schematics to install or hook up electrical equipment on multiphase circuits. You will arrange or install electrical devices (e.g., gauges, wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers) in compliance with safe operation of electrical systems and equipment. You will test electrical systems and components to determine the need for repairs and preventative maintenance. You will operate power tools (e.g., pipe benders, cutters, power drills) to cut, bend, fit, and thread components of electrical equipment and systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Assisting the install, repair, and troubleshooting of line voltage motor starters of all sizes and voltages up to 600 Volts; 2) Assisting the install of switches, receptacles, and lights fixtures in commercial and industrial building settings; and 3) Using a variety of electrical test equipment such as multimeter, megohmmeter, circuit tracer, phase rotation meter, circuit analyzer, data logger, and various other test equipment. To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places requiring long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh 20-40 lbs and, occasionally, may lift or move heavier equipment with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed both inside and outside. May be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather. May work in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes and in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships.
