Electrician SCADA System
Overview This position is physically located in Balad, Iraq Under the supervision of the Water Plant Mechanic Lead, the Electrician, SCADA Systems, is responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance, modifications, and installation of instrumentation and process electrical controls and the daily maintenance of water/wastewater treatment equipment maintenance activities on a contract. The Water Plant Controls Electrician is required to exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining Program results in concert with and at the direction of the Public Works Director. Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the potable/non-potable water and wastewater equipment maintenance activities on the program. The Water Plant Controls Electrician has the responsibility and authority of the potable and non-potable related activities on the assigned contract Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Performs preventative maintenance and repairs that are on schedule and to industry standards on equipment including, but not limited to instrumentation and electrical controls associated with a water treatment plant and distribution system, and sewer lift stations, and other plant equipment. Maintains PLCs including modifying and updating programs. Troubleshoots and repairs AC, DC, milliamp, and pneumatic equipment/systems i.e., transducers, analyzers, actuators, motor control centers, secondary circuit breakers, process controls, variable frequency/speed drives, motor & pneumatic operated valves, etc. Responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance program in the water treatment plants. Maintains electrical and instrumentation systems in two wastewater plants. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required. Licenses/Certifications: Valid Apprenticeship or technical certificate Water Treatment. High school graduate or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or technical field preferred. Experience: Five (5) years related experience in water treatment. Three (3) years supervisory experience in the management of personnel preferred. Experience with municipal Water Treatment, as well as some knowledge of Water Distribution systems is required. Previous experience in a contingency environment is a plus. Skills: Ability to safely work unassisted and with no supervision on electrical circuits and equipment up to 600 volts. Ability to distinguish between black, red, blue, white, green, brown, orange, and yellow wire colors. Ability to troubleshoot and repair motor control circuits with a multimeter. Must be able to read, write and speak fluently. Able and willing to perform other duties as needed, as skills and program allow. Experience with municipal Water Treatment, as well as some knowledge of Water Distribution systems required. Previous experience in a contingency environment is a plus. Thorough knowledge of electronic analytical devices such as turbidimeters, differential pressure transmitters, flow meters, and chlorine meters. Ability to read, interpret and follow manuals, exploded view diagrams, engineering sketches, charts, and work orders Ability to perform mathematical calculations required on the job Ability to pass and maintain the respirator fit test with a tight-fitting respirator in order to work with chlorine gas. Ability to use logic in troubleshooting problems. Ability to successfully plan maintenance projects from start to completion and meet deadlines. Working Conditions: Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, dusty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. Physical Requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
