Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer

Family Description

Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterised by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Subfamily Description

Eletromechanical Design (EDE) consists of mechanics, thermal, interconnections, Power Supply Unit (PSU), Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout design, and HW usability. EDE requires innovative design knowhow to design electromechanics parts to Base Transceiver Station (BTS) module, units, etc. Design targets are high quality, easy installability, and reliability products with low costs.

Participate in the development of mechanical assemblies in one or more of the following areas: design and verification of metal castings, sheet metal, stampings, plastic injection moldings, elastomeric gaskets, connectors, etc. Identify or develop mechanical parts and create the information needed to support the suppliers and manufacturing sites to produce the designs for both prototypes and mass production. Have a working knowledge of functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing as well as worst-case and statistical tolerance analysis techniques. Possess a basic proficiency in finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics simulation and general engineering analysis.

BS in Mechanical Engineering – with 5+ years of relevant work experience; Excellent theoretical and practical understanding of mechanical design with emphasis on EMI containment, heat transfer, cooling techniques & environmental protection; Experience with CAD tools preferably PTC Creo 5 or higher; Experience with FEA simulation tools preferably ANSYS or Creo Simulate Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Personal Attributes:

Excellent verbal and written communications skills; Excellent English level Good time management, planning and organizational skills Good mechanical aptitude with experience using power and hand tools found in a machine shop Adept Problem Solver Works well in a team environment Works well in International collocated teams Able to travel internationally Able to travel locally to EMS factories

Daily tasks will include design, simulation, prototyping, and testing. One must also be adept in technical writing and documenting the design as well as presenting their findings to peers and management.

During the program cycle the candidate will be:

defining hardware requirements for portions of the design based on higher level specifications; working with team members in other disciplines to develop the product to the requirements; proposing designs that improve the cost, assembly or manufacturability of the product; performing mechanical (tolerance, structural, thermal, etc.) analyses; performing hands-on design verification through testing; documenting the design and creating the test reports showing compliance to the requirements; troubleshooting complex problems to their root cause and proposing solutions. working in close cooperation with suppliers via conference calls and factory visits during the design phase and then supporting the production tool development & verification as well as initial production.
