LOCATION: Bloomfield, CT

BASE RATE PER HOUR: $36.70

SHIFT: Night Shift - 12 hour - 2-2-3 Schedule (Work every other weekend)

HOURS: 5:45 PM until 6 AM.

JOB SUMMARY/ JOB DUTIES: 

The Zone 1 Maintenance Mechanic is primarily responsible for ensuring the fully automated bakery production plant is operating in a safe manner and meet expected production needs.  The individuals that hold this position are self-starters who can work in a fast-paced, everchanging environment both individually and alongside a team of Mechanical and Electrical Technicians.  Zone 1 Mechanics are expected to assist/mentor/educate Zone 2 and Zone 3 Maintenance Mechanics in administering preventative maintenance and breakdown repair measures on all plant mechanical and electromechanical equipment.  

A Zone 1 Mechanic should be competent in all zone 2 and zone 3 level job functions Be proficient in electrical troubleshooting, able to locate a problem in a circuit up to the point of having to access the program logic Understands and adheres to governmental regulatory programs and policies, including, but not limited to: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E Arc Flash Electrical Safety, NFPA 70B Electrical Maintenance, NFPA 79 Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery, Uniform Building Code (UBC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and local government environmental agency policies. Have advanced knowledge of industrial piping, electrical, welding, and fabricating in order to set up, modify, repair, and troubleshoot problems on plant production and facility equipment. Be able to identify equipment issues affecting production, come up with a solution and be able to report what work needs to be done , what parts and materials are needed, time, labor etc., and work with planner and supervisor to complete the task. Be proficient in dealing with the production infrastructure i.e.: boilers, ammonia, oxidizers, Schick, Buellar, CIP, compressors (being familiar with their operation and aware of the routine maintenance needed, and what to do in the event of a system failure) Be able to set up and time all production equipment in the plant  Practices and complies with all plant and maintenance department safety procedures, including but not limited to:  Lock-Out - Tag-Out; Arc Flash and Hot Work Permits. Makes improvements and suggestions to optimize maintenance program.  Executes and document planned and unplanned work findings and data during shift via Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Be willing to seek continuing education and training to meet job requirements Respond to line calls; and complete corrective and preventative work orders as assigned. Effectively maintain control of multiple jobs simultaneously; Utilize maintenance inventory system and shop computer terminals to locate and check-out necessary parts for work.  Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to ensure open and clear communication between team members, departments and/or customers. Ensure that safety needs are given top priority in work execution and always follow proper safety procedures. Be safety conscious and understand/follow all JSA's, OSHA, EPA, and other regulations and procedures. Must adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety Policies and Practices.  Actively participate on plant teams such as focused improvement teams; safety teams; etc. Other duties as assigned with or without an accommodation. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

Education - high school diploma or equivalent and trade school diploma/certificate or an Associate degree in related field is required; Bachelor degree is preferred. Experience -6 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer Skills - Ability to learn and correctly utilize programs such as SAP to properly document daily work. Other Skills – ability to read machine prints/schematics, both mechanical and electrical, as well as technical and machine manuals; ability to read/interpret various instruments such as micrometers, calipers, electrical testing meters/equipment, tape measures, combination squares, etc.; proficient mechanical aptitude required to use lathes, milling machines, etc. and must have manual dexterity to use hand and power tools correctly and safely; good planning and organizational skills;  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Must be able to comply with the physical demands of constantly lifting and moving stock by hand or with manual equipment (including pallet jacks and forklifts).  Ability to lift 40+ lbs. on a regular basis, and occasionally be able to lift/move more than 50+ lbs. with mechanical or peer assistance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

8-12 Hour shift. Will receive two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute meal period.  Overtime and weekend work is required. Noise levels will be minimal to moderate, and temperature will be controlled. Lighting is sufficient.There is a possibility of slippery footing and dust from dry ingredients

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
