Trane is seeking a Compressor Motor - Power Electronics Engineer to provide motor design and application guidelines for new compressor development teams. This role will also provide power electronics application knowledge and apply variable speed drive technologies to compressors used in commercial HVAC and transport refrigeration.

This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week.
What you will do:
Develop and communicate motor specifications for the compressor development teams. Interface between the motor supplier and compressor design teams to provide cost effective motor designs that meet the compressor application requirements.As part of the development team, take ownership of the motor application within the compressor; to include design of motor mounting, motor cooling, lead wires terminations, hermetic feed thru's and laboratory testing of design.Develop and communicate variable speed drive specifications for the compressor development teams.Support integration of the variable speed drive with the compressor and unit teams.Interact with magnetic bearing, motor, and drive manufactures relative to reliability concerns.Interface with the field and/or factory on root cause investigation and problem resolution regarding magnetic bearing, motor, and/or drive related issues.Develop and communicate magnetic bearing specifications for the compressor development teams.Interface between magnetic bearing suppliers and compressor design teams to develop cost effective reliable solutions.Maintain performance data for motors.Directs creation of engineering documentation, including drawings, solid models, and specifications.Coordinate prototype fabrication, test planning and execution as well as data reduction.Conduct design FMEA's and develop corrective action plans to abate risks.Develop relevant Subject Matter Expertise: monitor new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies, academic research projects, and conferences.
