General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.
This position is responsible for solving a wide range of advanced technical issues. The candidate will support the advancing technologies in radiation monitoring systems which provide for the safety of plant personnel and the general public. The candidate will evaluate, interpret and resolve complex engineering problems to meet the customer requirements, while maintaining compliance with nuclear regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops innovative but practical solutions to advance technical problems in Radiation Monitoring Systems Design.Will mentor with senior team members to develop nuclear product engineering skills.Participates in derivation, establishment, and recording of requirements to support design and test event traceability.Supports change engineering activity by identifying and proposing changes to baseline documentation.Generates plans and procedures for qualification testing, as well as factory acceptance testing, utilizing engineering and scientific principles.Participates in the internal and external technical project/program reviews including preliminary and critical/detailed design reviews to ensure they meet defined product requirements.Troubleshoots conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.Addresses complex and difficult technical issues, drawing from advanced engineering concepts and/or highly creative practical approaches.Develop and maintain processes, procedures and reports that establish or maintain NIST traceability of radiation detector calibrations. Work closely with radiation detector technician during the calibration process.Provides focal point for technical communication within the company management and may represent the company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.Presents report(s) at engineering meetings, participate in program reviews and consults on problem resolutions.Prepares and reviews documented design inputs for electrical and mechanical design, as well as calculations required to support design of radiation monitoring equipment.Reviews requirement matrix and/or statement of work to generate basis of estimates in support of customer proposals.Participates in the systems engineering tasks and process:Reviewing new system designs/requirements to ensure compatibility with product software & hardware capabilities.Review customer specs/RFQs to determine if existing products meet the requirementsDevelop or aid in the development of system requirements for new products based on existing functionality and latest standardsDevelop/maintain traceability for system requirements, software requirements, design and testingDevelop system test programs per IEEE Standards. This would include developing a Test Plan, Test Designs. Test Cases and Test Procedures for a product or changes.Perform formal verification/validation testing of system (hardware and software) products or changes with a QA witnessPerform verification of requirements as part of design reviews and project completionSystem Design: Creating system architecture and designing embedded systems that meet specific requirements and constraints.Hardware Design: Designing and selecting appropriate hardware components, such as microcontrollers, sensors, and communication interfaces.Software Development: Writing and testing software for embedded systems, typically in languages like C, C++, or Assembly.Prototyping: Building and testing prototypes to validate design concepts and system functionality.Integration: Integrating hardware and software components to ensure seamless operation of the embedded system.Debugging and Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving issues in both hardware and software to ensure system reliability.Maintenance of systems designs due to part obsolescence issues:Locate Form, Fit and Function replacements for obsolete parts orModify designs to use new parts while minimizing impact on firmware.Update firmware as required in support of design changes due to obsolescence.Generation of new systems’ software Configuration Requirement Specifications. Generation and release of software configuration files.Support Customer Support Engineers in troubleshooting problems in the field.May be asked to participate in design activity for other product areas.Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company.Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
