ELECTRONIC SECURITY SYSTEM MECHANIC

Summary You will serve as a Electronic Security System Mechanic in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will use test equipment (e.g., oscilloscope, transistor tester, logic comparator, volt-ohm meter, special purpose test set) to install and repair electronic equipment. You will use electronic amplifiers, processors, filters, bridges, or other electronic devices to transform electro-acoustical, electro-mechanical, or electro-optical devices into digital signals. You will use electronic operating principles to install, test, and repair fire or security alarm systems. You will perform work on intercommunications systems (e.g., building intercoms, portable public address systems) to maintain operability. You will perform installation, repair, fabrication, and modification on sensor subsystems and logic subsystems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Performing installation, replacement and troubleshooting for electronic controls; 2) Interpreting engineering drawings which combine electrical and electronic schematics, logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings to perform electronic security systems maintenance; and 3) Operating hand and power tools to perform electrical tests, measurements, and maintenance. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
