Purpose of the position: 

 

The Electrical Engineering Technician (EET) will report to the Plant Engineer and will work with both Engineering and Maintenance personnel in troubleshooting of machinery and equipment. 
General responsibilities will include test, calibrate, install, repair, and inspect monitoring devices. 
Additionally, the EET will perform general programming on the equipment and design new measuring and recording equipment. 
Perform routine and emergency maintenance on analog electrical, electronic, and pneumatic equipment and networks used to collect, process, transmit, receive and record data, and to regulate the operation of the final control elements.
Perform periodic inspections, testing, adjustments, calibrations and servicing activities necessary to assure the proper operation of process instrumentation and control systems; perform operational systems tests and fault diagnostics to identify and correct electrical, pneumatic and electric analog and computer system failures; employ computer system diagnostic programs, computer control console switches and indicators, and logic analyzers to locate and replace defective circuit boards and modules in computers and computer peripherals, and repairs digital interfaces
Perform functional tests to identify and correct telemetry system failures; perform acceptance tests of new equipment and inspect the installation of equipment and systems for conformance with plans and specifications; perform original design work required to implement analog and digital system modifications; prepare new or modify existing operating and maintenance procedures; use maintain, and repair electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic test instruments.
Perform specialized staff work related to control systems; may train new employees and other technical personnel in the maintenance of control systems.

 

Schedule:

Both dayshift and nightshift position available

Candidate will expect to train M-F on days for a suitable period to prove competency.

Permanent shift schedule will be a 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 3 off,  bi-weekly rotation.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Works closely with engineering and maintenance personnel on program development and governance and implementation of changes and additions to plant machinery and equipment to improve efficiency, product quality, and reliability.

Assists in installations and start-ups of new equipment and machinery to ensure work is performed per procedures, on schedule, and that proper safety regulations are being followed.  Verifies proper operation upon completion.

Works with outside contractors, suppliers, and field service personnel on installing, repairing, or commissioning of plant machinery and equipment.

Provides complete and accurate documentation of new installations and/or modifications to existing equipment.  Ensures drawings, manuals, and job folders are properly maintained and filed for future use.

Upgrades skill level to ensure proficiency on existing and new equipment through seminars/training classes, technical publications, reviewing other plant facilities, etc.

Operates specialized testing and diagnostic equipment.  Maintains instruction manuals, service records, and documents same.

Be able to program PLCs with ladder logic, both GE and Allen Bradley, writing programs from scratch as well as reading/editing troubleshooting existing programs. This should include all normal I/O: digital, analog, counters, etc., with ability to manage data handling within the PLC memory, such as arrays and data moves.

Be able to program both GE ProficyME View and Allen Bradley PanelView operator interface screens. This includes creating operator information screens with basic graphics and data values, also using scripting to manipulate data values as needed, provide tag settings to publish tags for external retrieval (IQS software, iHistorian).

Be able to configure and exchange data between PLC platforms over available network communication connections.

Be able to program applications with basic iGear scripting for data moves, collection of values from control devices and generate alarms and E-mail alerts for prescribed upset conditions.

Must have ability and experience to perform setup/tuning of scanners for bar code reads.

 

Education:

Certificates Specific to Electrical Background required. 

High School Diploma or GED required. 

A 2-year associate degree preferred. 

 

Experience:

Manufacturing experience in a production facility with a strong electrical background required.

PLC experience - must be PLC, motion, & automated equipment controls orientated.

Experience troubleshooting in industrial environments.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must show initiative, strong work ethic, and work with minimal supervision.
