Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Facility Operations Division, Electrical Branch, Electrical Night Section. The Electronics Mechanic will perform journey-level Fire Protection system equipment troubleshooting, testing, installation, maintenance, and repairs. Responsibilities TOUR OF DUTY: Night Shift 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The position is designated as emergency essential. Major Duties: Duties quoted at WG-12 level. Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Repair Maintains, tests, troubleshoots and repairs diverse vendor smoke and heat fire alarm systems and devices. Assists contractors to locate and install system components ranging in complexity from the older electrical and analog devices to the newer moderately complex digital computer controlled systems. Replaces defective sensors and circuit control boards. Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, bench tests, performs functional tests and adjusts the specified accuracy of a variety of equipment and circuitry, such as hard wire alarm transceivers, control consoles, printed circuit boards and cards, electrical buzzers, speaker circuits, flow switches, tamper switches, heat detectors and smoke detectors. Responds to emergency calls to return alarm systems to on-line status as quickly as possible. Works from verbal instructions, work orders, blueprints, schematics, maintenance schedules and inspection schedules to perform maintenance, diagnose system or equipment malfunctions, make repairs and replaces equipment as required. Utilizes a voltmeter, amp meter, wattmeter, ohmmeter, etc. to test circuits and equipment for ground faults or open circuits. Evaluates the fire alarm system module, component, device and circuit failures. Isolates the system failure and replaces the defective part or component, minimizing downtime and restoring circuit integrity in a timely manner. Installs and Tests Complex Computerized Automated Fire Protection Equipment Installs or assists contractors to install new systems or upgrades of existing fire protection devices and systems. Installs new devices and/or relocates existing devices in conduit or flexible raceways as applicable. Preserves, upkeeps, corrects and regulates mechanisms and assemblies of the numerous systems that may be assigned. Aligns and balances analog circuits, tests analog and digital circuits, replaces faulty electronic parts and various solid state devices. Troubleshoots the cause of operational problems on novel or improved systems when technical specifications are inadequate. Installs, maintains and troubleshoots low voltage wiring associated with electronically controlled door hardware operated by the fire alarm system(s). Provides technical support to Fire Protection Engineers and other Superintendent’s office staff to solve problems found in test programs. Isolates specific faults in the automated test apparatuses or the unit under test and completes the required repairs. Utilizes a thorough knowledge of and compliance with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure know how to use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT: WG-10: Ability to perform inspections and testing, trouble shooting, maintenance and repair of Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Systems. WG-11/12: Ability to perform journey-level Fire Protection System equipment troubleshooting, testing, installation, maintenance, and repairs without more than normal supervision.
