I. POSITION SUMMARY

 

An Electronics Technician Training job classification is for a future Electronics Tech position.  The Electronics Tech in training should have an electronic and electrical background, trade school or electronics classes as indicated in the educational requirements to prepare them for the on-the-job training, they will receive by a qualified Electronics Technician. The Technician in training will receive instruction in troubleshooting techniques, trouble analysis and prevention, circuit analysis principles and techniques. They will receive assessments and reviews, and once training is completed and the member is deemed qualified, the member should be promoted to an electronics Technician position on the 12-hour night shift most likely.

 

Upon Promotion to Electronics Tech, the member will be presented with the appropriate job description and responsibilities for that position.

 

 

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other appropriate duties as assigned):

 

 

A.    Services, troubleshoots, and repairs power and control circuitry of industrial equipment under instruction of a qualified Electronics Technician. This equipment may include any and all existing PLC units, servo motors, drives and encoders, as well as robotic equipment and applications within the NGK facility.

B.    Perform routine maintenance items such as cleaning and inspection of electrical and electronic systems and components: an Electronics Technician / Controls Engineer will instruct the Trainee in identifying worn or faulty components and/or unsuitable conditions and the proper methods and standards for correcting as required.

C.    Discusses application requirements, layout and assembly procedures and problems with Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, and/or Controls Engineer and draws sketches to clarify details and functional criteria of electronic units.

D.    Receives instruction on modifying existing PLC code, parameters and drive systems if required, including permission, retests and backing up.

E.    Assembles experimental circuitry (breadboards), complete prototype models or production units as needs arise.

F.    Receives instruction on how to make changes in circuitry, components, installation specifications and/or actual equipment design or operation to simplify assembly, installation, operation and maintenance.

G.    This job has no supervisory responsibilities and no direct reports.

IV. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

A.    Required Experience should include

1.     A trade school certification involving electrical / electronic principles or 3-5 years' experience in a Multicraft industrial maintenance position.

 

2.     High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

 

3.     Must be able to read electrical drawings and schematics and wire up simple circuits (motor starter circuits).

 

4.     CRC test score Bronze or above

 

B.    Required Language Skills                                                           

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.

C.    Required Mathematical Skills                                                      

 

1.     Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

D.    Required Reasoning Ability                                                         

 

1.     Ability to understand and apply basic maintenance and electrical principles to problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

 

2.     Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

 

E.    Preferred Qualifications

 

1.     Extensive background check may be required.

 

2.     Knowledge of applicable software: Microsoft Office and CMMS like Maximo.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee may be occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may be required occasionally to assist other employees in lifting objects heavier than 50 pounds.  The employee may be required to occasionally use manual material handling equipment to move up to 500 pounds. The employee may be required to successfully pass scheduled testing for vision, hearing, respirator fitting and spirometry.

 

VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat; extreme cold; and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; and occasionally loud.

 

 

VII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE

 

A.    EH approved composite safety shoes/boots must be worn while on NGK property.

 

B.    Hearing protection may be required in designated areas.

 

C.    Respirators, half mask cartridge respirators plus goggles, or full-face cartridge respirators may be required in designated areas or under prescribed work conditions.

 

D.    Safety glasses, safety googles and/or face shield may be required while performing certain job duties.

 

E.    Chemical resistant suits, PVC aprons and/or chemical resistant boot covers may be required while performing certain job duties.

 

F.    Regularly scheduled testing may be performed for: lung capacity (i.e. spirometry test), vision, hearing, and respirator fit.
