ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN
Summary You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the Military Sealift Command (MSC), CMD, Control, COMM & Comp SYS DIR (N6), IT Service Execution Division (N64), Afloat Operations Branch (N644), Electronics Unit (N6442) of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND. Responsibilities You will provide a variety of services required to satisfactorily provision and sustain Command, Control, Communications and Computer (C4) services that directly affect the accomplishment of the MSC mission. You will examine shipboard navigation and communication facilities to ensure ships are capable of maintaining satisfactory communications with the Navy and MSC Fleet, applicable shore facilities and mission sponsors as required. You will maintain close contact with equipment manufactures and other electronics technicians to learn the latest innovations in the electronic field and investigate technical advances. You will review maintenance documentation and provides input for the development of maintenance plans. You will recommend ordnance system or component design modifications or changes based on test and evaluation results. You will collaborate with engineers to complete ship maintenance, repair, or modernization projects. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience devising methods and procedures for electronics system troubleshooting, maintenance and/or repair. Experience researching and/or developing technical specifications for electronic system or component upgrades to meet new regulatory rules and regulations. Experience using life cycle support functions for corrective or preventive maintenance of electronic communication systems. Experience executing installation, maintenance, and/or sustainment activities for new and existing command and control, communications, and navigations systems in support of agency missions. Experience inspecting and/or evaluating shipboard communication systems to assess reliability, operation, readiness, and safety. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position is eligible for ad-hoc/situational telework at the discretion of management. The employee may be required to work aboard surface vessels while underway on trial runs and regular operations. Shipyard and shipboard work are a requirement of the position where the incumbent may be required to so a considerable amount of walking, gaining access through small penetrations and climb ship structures (i.e. masts), crawl and bend to accomplish shipboard inspections in a shipyard environment. Frequent travel and shipboard visits require exposure to discomforts such as high noise levels, high temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
