The primary purpose of this position is to test and evaluate state-of-the-art weapon systems and cyber capabilities, provide quality installation and mission support, and serve as responsible stewards of our resources to deliver war-winning capabilities. Responsibilities Certifies assigned systems and sub-systems to ensure compliance with USAF and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established standards and safety requirements. Determines when equipment malfunctions warrant shutdown of various systems Provides technical guidance, training, and assistance to other technicians and conducts on-the-job (OJT) training to apprentices in all phases of work Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Examples of specialized experience includes working as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-8 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the NH-03 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks The ideal candidate will have extensive experience maintaining airfield systems including: AN/GPN-30 Digital Airport Surveillance Radar; AN-FSQ-204 Standard Terminal Automation System; WSD-88D Next Generation Radar System; Mono-pulse Secondary Surveillance Radar; AN/FMQ-19 Weather System; CM300, CM350, GRT, and URC-200 Radios; FCS-127 Enhanced Terminal Voice Switch; GSH-74 Digital Analog Legal Recorder, Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Tactical Air Navigation Systems. The candidate will have a proven record of resolving difficult equipment problems and will be able understand complex technical data. The candidate will have in-depth knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices and will be able to effectively use all types test and diagnostic equipment. (cannot be used for qualification determination) .KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Skill and knowledge of wide range of electronic principles and practices on the following; Digital Airport Surveillance Radar(DASR-AN/GPN-30); Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS-AN/FSQ-204); Next Generation Weather Radar System (NEXRAD-WSD-88D); Mono-pulse Secondary Surveillance Radar, (MSSR);FMQ-19 or 23 Weather System; GRC, GRT, GRR, CM-300, URC-200 Radio Systems; FCS-127 ETVS; GSH-74DALR, Instrument Landing System (ILS), TACAN, associated support equipment, and any systems purchased to replace the aforementioned equipment. Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems associated with air traffic control and weather radar equipment; and of systems and component design, capabilities, configurations, limitations, and functional operation; and of various types of electronics logic. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems; in analyzing problems in integrated/interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits; and in using complex electronic and electromechanical test and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes. Ability to modify standard procedures, adapt equipment or techniques, and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for highly complex electronic systems; to trace electronics logic from one system to another; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships to Ability to use computer terminals to enter and extract data to maintain records and document actions. Knowledge of computer operating systems programs, e.g. Unix, Linux, Sun Solaris; network types; network topologies; transport devices e.g. hubs, routers, switches; and data communications equipment.
