Elementary Library Media Specialist - 2025-2026 School Year JobID: 1936 Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/ Library Media Specialist + Date Posted: 2/3/2025 + Location: Victor Central School District + Closing Date: 02/28/2025 JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Library Media Specialist 2025-2026 School Year Job Description: The Library Media Specialist will provide each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual probing, growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources Qualifications: + Hold valid New York State School teaching certificate as a Library Media Specialist + Strong knowledge of information literacy and available resources + Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents + Ability to gather and analyze data to develop action plans + Ability to effectively utilize technology + Ability to engage culturally diverse students + Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with internal and external stakeholders Responsibilities: + Equipping each student with the tools they need to become lifelong learners and valuable contributors to both their local community and the global society + Evaluates, selects, requisitions, and processes new library materials + Provides guidance to students in the selection of library materials + Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires + Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging and managing all library materials + Instructs teachers and students on use of the library/media center system + Sets guidelines and procedures for automated management of library materials + Administers the library budget + Prepares an annual inventory + Collaborates with teachers in creating and facilitating classroom assignments and instruction that utilizes library resources and develops information literacy + Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of all reference materials in relation to planned assignments + Collaborates with the building technology coordinators, teachers and administrators in identifying needs and integrating library technologies into educational and information processes + Collaborates with all staff to identify and use library information technologies and software required to meet patrons' information needs and support the curriculum + Collaborates with the building's learning community to plan, design, implement and assess an effective, student-centered technology plan that incorporates library resources + Participates in curriculum planning meetings + Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities, technology and materials + Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers and students + Directs activities of support personnel assigned to the library Terms of Employment: The position of Library Media Specialist is a ten-month position. The terms established in accordance with the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Victor Teachers’ Association. Evaluation: Per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Central Teachers’ Association. Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Technology Salary:Minimum starting salary $48,502 (negotiable based on experience), as per the Victor Teachers' Association agreement.
