Elevator Hoistway Test Technician

Role Overview: 

In a time of exciting transformation for Otis, continuing the company’s path of change, our Engineering organization is hiring for an Elevator Hoistway Test Technician within our Farmington, Connecticut Lead Design Center (LDC).  In this role, you will be involved in the design, fabrication, development, test and release of products worldwide.  Our goal is to safely deliver accurate results on time to our internal customers and maximizing safety and performance to our external customers with reliable, secure, elevator functionality.  This role is intended to be electrically, mechanically and electronics inclined.  This role will also lead to support of Engineers in field piloting and trouble shooting of newly launched programs.

On a typical day you will: 

Job performance will be measured in adherence to EHS policies, the integrity of test results and timely completion of projects.Demonstration of a commitment to customer requirements and delight.Install complete elevator systems working from typical field type installation drawings.Develop, build and operate electrical and mechanical test equipment for use during the development and testing of elevator systems.Proficient in the use of basic hand tools, machine work and basic welding/fabricating to support hoistway testing.Prepare and conduct testing on electrical and mechanical components.Work in hoistway at elevated heights wearing fall protection equipment.Perform hoisting and rigging responsibilities in and around hoistways and challenging picks/placements.

What You Will Need to be Successful: 

Otis is looking for a strong collaborator and self-motivator with a passion for working with their hands to contribute as a team member.  The candidate is likely to have a hobby or interest outside of work that is similar in nature.

High School Diploma with an aptitude for the technical or skilled trades.2-5+ years of mechanical work experience is required.  Some level of electrical experience is a plus.Aptitude for building, troubleshooting and operation of electromechanical test fixtures.Aptitude for troubleshooting mechanical systems and an awareness of the electrical interfaces as well.Strong team working skills with project teams and other technicians.Strong analytical and problem solving skills are essential.Must be proficient in spoken and written English and computer literateMust be able to read and understand mechanical and some electrical engineering drawings and implement their requirements.Proficient in mechanical and some electrical fabrication.Proficient in dimensional checks and measurements.Experience in safe hoisting and rigging practices.Must be able to work at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
