Elko Business Office - Technical Specialist, Operations Research

We are looking for a Technical Specialist, Operations Research at the Elko Business Office. The successful candidate will have excellent technical knowledge of mine engineering, operations research models, and strong computer science skills. The Technical Specialist, Operations Research has a unique opportunity to work across Nevada Gold Mines sites on operational research, taking data from all mines and identifying opportunities for regional optimization.

Responsibilities:

Strong focus on developing advanced planning and disruption management solutions aimed at continually improving mine performance and operational efficiencies Ability to synthesize complex problems and create solutions that add value to a myriad of business needs.  Must have a “can do" mindset to find solutions. Responsible for Life of Mine (LOM) planning  Undertake mine design optimization and economic assessment works Identify technical projects and support or manage consultants to deliver solutions Interface with the operations team to ensure appropriate long-range planning support and experienced conditions are considered in LOM planning Responsible person delivery of LOM plans Interface with and manage consultants assisting in engineering and planning Develop and update the financial model for the LOM budget Lead trade-off studies and develop scenarios for review of potential options relating to LOM planning Set up and managed the schedule for the delivery of key outputs in the LOM planning process Interface with other technical professionals (Geotech, Geology, Hydrogeology, Metallurgy) to ensure LOM plans are technically sound and optimizations are identified Compile documentation and presentations of work in progress and completed. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering (or similar engineering field) required Advanced degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable quantitative field preferred Strong background in modeling, optimization, and algorithms preferred Experience with Deswik, Minemax, Vulcan, or other mine planning software packages is strongly preferred Experience in designing, developing, and implementing optimization tools preferred 3+ years of experience in using commercial optimization solvers such as CPLEX Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills required Strong interpersonal, organizational and prioritization skills required  Ability to work well collaboratively and independently required  Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles required
