The opportunity An exciting opportunity exists in our Capital Projects team within our Oil, Gas & Power division. The Embankment Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the construction of tailings embankments for mining projects in international locations. The purpose of this role is to provide high-level technical expertise and leadership. The role is also responsible for coordinating, directing, and evaluating daily operations and production activities to ensure uninterrupted embankment construction while maintaining a strong safety culture. This role is based in Moa, Cuba on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off: 12 hours per day, 6 days per week. In this role, you will be accountable for: + Project Management: Identifying needs and deficiencies in the project plan, schedule and budget. Resolving any scheduling conflicts with other crews and contractors. + Monitoring, supervising, and coordinating construction activities to ensure adherence to project plans and specifications. + Team Leadership:  Leading and managing a diverse team of construction professionals, including engineers, technicians, and field crews. Providing clear direction, guidance, and support to team members.  Overseeing the construction of various embankment and engineering components of a tailing’s storage facility. + Inspecting construction sites to identify and address potential issues. + Providing appropriate engineering input and a technical overview. + Ensuring adherence to design standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. + Monitoring and managing geotechnical and hydrological parameters. + Implementing quality control measures to maintain high standards. + Ensuring compliance with local environmental regulations and international best practices. + Providing technical coordination with various disciplines. + Completing quality reports and required statistics. Reporting on crew production, work progress and change. + Ensuring proper documentation of operations activities in logs and/or incident reports. + Overseeing the procurement of materials, equipment, and services. Controlling logistics and transportation of materials to construction sites. + Identifying and mitigating potential risks and challenges. + Training and supporting personnel in achieving timely and efficient production schedules. + Ensuring safety protocols and quality control measures through and performing daily inspections and ensuring compliance with the safety policies and procedures. + Overseeing the overall safety of all personnel working at or visiting the site. Skills and attributes for success: + Engineering degree (Civil/Structural), or graduate of an applicable technical diploma program, and/or combination of education and relevant experience. + Minimum of 10 years in a construction project management or project supervisory role for embankment construction or geotechnical engineering firm. + Experience with projects valued over $50 million is required. + Must have a valid driver’s license. + Ability to read and understand construction documents including contracts, drawings, specifications, subcontracts. + Proven understanding of estimating and project management methodologies, and industry practices. + Familiarity with relevant construction codes, standards, and practices. + Self-starter with the ability to work diligently and achieve results with minimal supervision. + English fluency is required Spanish fluency would be considered a significant asset. + Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel). + Safety-minded and goal oriented. + Understanding of the mining construction industry.
