Embedded Engineer

Main Responsibilities:

Design, Develop, and Maintain Firmware: The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining both hardware and firmware for embedded devices and systems. The focus will be on Fieldbus communication, which is a standard for industrial network communication. Integration of Communication Stacks: The engineer will integrate various fieldbus protocols such as PROFINET, EtherCAT, Ethernet IP, Profibus DP, OPC-UA, or TCP-IP communication into existing or newly implemented firmware. Test Strategies and Specifications: The engineer will develop test strategies and specify tests to qualify the developed fieldbus products. Certification Tests: The engineer will prepare and carry out fieldbus-specific certification tests. Collaboration: The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to integrate and validate new product designs. Team Building: The engineer will help build and improve the Fieldbus development team. Product Enhancement: The engineer will continuously enhance the Fieldbus encoder products through customer feedback. Travel: The engineer is expected to travel internationally ~40% during the onboarding phase and ~20% once the onboarding phase is complete.

Competencies:

Experience: The candidate should have proven working experience in software engineering. Education: The candidate should have a university degree in Computer Science or Engineering. Hands-on Experience: The candidate should have hands-on development and troubleshooting experience with embedded targets. Programming Skills: The candidate should have strong programming skills in C, C++ / C#. Familiarity with Fieldbus Protocols: The candidate should be familiar with Fieldbus protocols and communication standards such as Profinet, Profibus, EtherCAT, Ethernet IP, OPC-UA, or TCP-IP communication. Ability to Read Schematics: The candidate should be able to read schematics and data sheets for components. Documentation and Writing Skills: The candidate should have excellent documentation and writing skills. Communication Skills: The candidate should have very good communication skills and experience in working with global R&D teams and related areas such as hardware and software development, system testing, and type testing. Experience with System-on-Chip Solutions: Experience with system-on-chip solutions such as Renesas, Hilscher netX is an advantage.

This role is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in embedded systems and fieldbus communication. It involves a mix of design, development, testing, and collaboration with various teams. The role also requires a significant amount of international travel, especially during the onboarding phase.
