Company Overview

Siemens Foundational Technology (FT) is the central R&D department of Siemens and thus has a key role to shape the future of our products. FT acts as a strategic partner to support the executive units of Siemens. In consequence the main research focus is on future technologies for industry, infrastructure, mobility, and healthcare. We are looking for a student with strong interest in system-level engineering and programming. Candidates should have a background in Linux as well as Android programming who can help us deploying Android on Industrial PCs and program Industrial Applications for these systems.

In this role you will work on-site in Princeton, NJ. The position is a fulltime position for at least 3 months and remote work is not available.

Role Summary

In this internship we are looking for a motivated and talented student with experience with system-level engineering. Specifically, they shall have background in deploying Linux and Android on systems (e.g. PCs, Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone, etc.), programming on system level and also programming applications for Android. They should have a deep interest in operating systems. The intern will explore possibilities of using Android for Industrial Applications with high requirements for robustness and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Research into solutions for sandboxing Linux applicationsResearch into requirements for installing Android on computer systemsPrototypical installation of Android on selected Siemens Industrial PCsPorting/ Developing Industrial Applications to AndroidPrototypical sandboxing of Applications on LinuxTesting and evaluating the developed prototypesWork closely with cross-functional teams of experts in a variety of fields in the industry

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited university.Preferred: Enrolled in a master program or PhD program with the background in computer science, systems engineering, or a related field

Basic Qualifications

Fluent in EnglishExperience with Linux and Android beyond user levelStrong C/C++ programming skillsWorking knowldege of operating systems

Preferred Skills

Basic knowledge in Programming Android ApplicationsExcellent problem-solving skillsEffective communication and teamwork abilitiesAbility to work independently and manage time effectively

Work setting

The position does require the person to be in the United States of America and hold a valid work permit for the US.

The work requires physical presence in our industrial applications lab in Princeton, NJ

You will work in close collaboration with experienced engineers on site allowing you to get an understanding of how to work in teams with a wide variety technical experts in different areas of industrial automation.

The pay range for this position is $23.00-$50.00 per hour. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
