Job Description SummaryThis 1-year internship will be based at the GE Vernova Grid Solutions Asset Monitoring site in Lisburn, Northern Ireland and is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic university student or recent graduate who is interested in the application of their embedded systems &/or test engineering knowledge in industry.
The Asset Monitoring product line is a class leading vendor of sensing devices and systems to electrical utilities and industrial customers. The product line spans sensing of multiple asset types and has a broad portfolio of advanced technology, which aid customers to understand and optimize the operating condition of key assets such as HV/MV power transformers and circuit breakers. Role responsibilities
Learn and understand the internal workings of embedded systems within GE transformer monitoring products, with support from relevant experts in the Engineering teamWork within a team environment to execute appropriate firmware design tasksWork collaboratively with hardware and software testers to support new feature development of system and sub-componentsSupport firmware development, design, and test of new features to enable new functionality and/or support new hardware componentsDevelop automated test code for testing systems and sub-systems for complex systemAssist DevOps in automating build, test, and deployment processes to improve efficiency and reliability.Essential criteria
Completed at least 2 years study of degree level education or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronic Engineering, or related degreeProgramming experience in any language e.g. C, C++, Python etc.Basic understanding of firmware development tools, such as compilers, debuggers, and version control systemsWillingness to learn new technologies and techniquesAbility to work both with a team and independently and be self-motivatedAbility to get projects/tasks across the line, to a high level of quality and within deadline and scopeAbility to present complex data clearly with meaningful conclusionsWork collaboratively with hardware designers to optimize software / hardware partitioningCan communicate effectively to team members with and without embedded systems experience clearly and concisely on technical mattersStrong oral and written communication skillsMust be organized and have methodical approach to problem solvingDesirable Criteria
Familiarity with software development, defect tracking and test case management toolsExperience of Linux based operating systemsExperience of systems with complex, inter-dependent sub-component architecture and communication methods between theseUnderstanding of development life cycles e.g. Agile, etc.The curiosity and enthusiasm to keep up to date with latest engineering techniques and products.Basic understanding of DevOps principles and practices is a plus.Additional InformationRelocation Assistance Provided: No
