Emergency Department Tech
In cooperation with the Nursing staff and providers, the Emergency Department Tech is responsible and directly accountable to perform clerical and non-nursing duties at the nurse' station; to observe and report cardiac rhythms; and to be available to assist nursing staff as needed with physical care of patients. Job Requirements - Knowledge of / Skill / Ability to: A thorough knowledge of departmental principles and procedures; knowledge and skills in techniques of good patient care in emergent situations. Must be able to read and write English as well as speak and understand English. Computer knowledge in use of keyboard, mouse. Spelling with emphasis on medical terminology required. License / Certification: Dependent on training program completed (see Education and/or Experience). Current BLS certification. Satisfactory completion of basic dysrhythmia testing is required and will be tracked by the department manager. Education and/or Experience: Completion of MA, EMT, or equivalent training is preferred. Proof of completion must be provided. CNA II considered. Other education/degrees/ certifications will be considered based on relevance and clinical pertinent experience. High School diploma or equivalency required. Previous emergency or acute care hospital experience highly preferred, but not required. Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance : Works inside. Work is of minimal physical demand; walking, standing, and sitting at desk much of the time while on duty. Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with the assistance of co-workers. Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts and equipment carts. Transfers patients to/from cars, stretchers, beds, chairs and ambulates as necessary. Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8 – 12 hours (shift dependent). Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs. Normal or corrected vision is required to observe patients, process orders, complete paperwork; normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in alarms, call lights, heartbeats, and breathing. Manual dexterity is required for operating equipment. Exposure to physical and emotional stress of the work environment. Occasional exposure to infectious diseases.
